I think he'll be given an injury settlement. 2 season-ending injuries in back-to-back seasons...he just doesn't have an NFL body.

. . . but where have you been? After Steve Johnson (Buffalo, WR) dropped that game winner in OT vs. Pittsburgh a season ago, he tweeted this:

I know.... I know. A few heads will explode here if LaQuan Williams makes the roster over Streeter.
Boldin Smith Evans Doss Williams Reed... they carried 6 last year, basically Reed either gets PUP'd or Streeter has to beat out Williams at gunner. Tall order, especially as well as williams played down the stretch. Not impossible, and if he shines in camp im sure they find a way to keep him.

I have no problem with the Jones signing. David Reed has had ample time to prove himself. He is coming off of a season ending injury. Relying on him as a receiver or a returner this season is iffy at best. If Doss is ready to be the 3rd wr he will beat out Jones for the spot. That is what I am hoping happens.

Maybe. Maybe not. His career has been derailed by injuries, so it's hard to say whether or not he could have been more than what he ended up being. Unfortunate for him, but it looks as thugh the Ravens are moving on.

I'm not a big fan of the Jacoby Jones signing, but I'm not opposed to it, either. He's now a Raven and I am pulling for him to do well. However, bringing in mid-level players who block the development of younger (and perhaps potentially better) players doesn't thrill me much - but I've learned to live with the risk-adverse theories of the Ravens' coaching staff that seem to permeate the entire organization.

The old adage is high risk/high reward, low risk/low reward. The Ravens seem to take the latter approach in a lot of these personnel decisions. Maybe someday one will work out better than expected and get them over the hump.

I must say that this is further proof that one should never mix religion with tweeting.

It's surprising to me that some are basically ignoring the fact that David Reed shredded his knee late in the season last year.

Considering the last 3 guys we've brought back from torn ACL's weren't ready at the start of the year and suffered from a significant drop in performance, I don't think people need to be penciling Reed in as on the 53 at the start of the year.

PUP was made for guys like this...

From what were hearing hes ahead in recovery and aiming to return to practice in TC. If he practices just once hes not eligible for PUP leaving only IR or being cut as his options. Personally i think it would make sense for him not to push it and come back when hes 100% but a guy fighting for his roster spot may have a different opinion.

The same was said of Webb and Fabien 2 years ago and their play suffered.

While they can play after a year now, guys that shred their knees still need 2 years to fully recover.

And I think after the Foxworth disaster last year, if they have a brain, they will start him on PUP and leave him there as long as they can. He really isn't needed with the addition of Jones...at least not this year.

They can just move him to IR, get a look at the new/younger guys in 2012 and then proceed in 2013 how they see fit.

oh i agree with you. Even if he does come back hell probably be less effective than he was and would be overly optimistic to think hed be the same in the return game as well as compete for the 3rd WR slot, but it appears thats what he, and possibly the team, have in mind. If he does come back i see them cutting him as i doubt hell be able to beat out anybody, except maybe streeter who hopefully shows some flashes of ability and cements his spot, and will be "healthy" even if he isnt 100%.
