Sure, you want to invest *something* in getting a decent backup. But a 4th? On a team with holes everywhere? I don't think so. Semi-retired, semi-washed up backup QBs are a dime a dozen. Dennis Dixon? Kyle Boller? Really, it's not hard.
With you 100%. Skins trade a bundle for RGIII, so they've got to be wise with their picks. Just a few guys who they could have had in the 4th = Blake (C), Alameda (DT), Massie (OT), Toon (WR), Crick (DL), Childs (WR)... Bc

Agreed they shouldn't have taken him in the 4th, when they have so many needs and few picks. They wasted a chance to upgrade another position.

Just saying that trying to make a QB controversy out of it is silly.

Whether or not their intentions was a QB controversy...I don't think that's necessarily true. However, it's likely to happen now. It was just a dumb move for multiple reasons. Mainly being what you posted.

I hear you but I think teams are shying away from the Kevin Kolb and to a lesser extent Donovan McNabb scenario. You have to trade for them based on a limited (not in McNabb's) case sample size and pay that player a contract worthy of at least a lower tier starter.

As AZ found out, it wasn't worth paying twice.

The Slurs and specifically Shanny have cut heir own throats in making this move.

If anyone cares to get his thoughts on being selected, Cousins was on with The Junkies yesterday and it's up on their podcast.

This kid is going to do just fine. Very mature and level headed. He plays his cards right, he's going to have a few teams calling in no time.

QBs flop all the time. I still don't see teams trading their backups very often.

You do it with QB's, You develop them and then trade them for higher value. Plus you have a built in back up. The Eagles got a 2nd rounder for AJ Feeley for goodness sakes.

If RGIII is worried about a 4th round pick taking his playing time, he's not a franchise QB.

Not only that, but I think you somewhat have to abandoned the BPA thinking when you've just invested all those picks in one position, and now you're going to invest one more good pick in the same position, when you could have used that now-rare chance to help the team with another player.

EDIT: Basically the same point I now see RAVENSWINTITLE was making.
