OT - MCA of Beastie Boys passes

Don't know about a lot of you, but I grew up with these guys.

Total pioneers in the music industry.

47 years old. What a shame.

Wow, pretty young. I like their stuff, you can tell they're doing most of it tongue-in-cheek. Hell, who would've thought 3 Jewish guys from Brooklyn could make rap CDs and people would actually buy them?

Especially during the time when NWA and gangster rap was getting pretty big.

These guys paved the way. No doubt about it.

I'm sure this thread will get moved, but I figure there would probably be a fair amount of guys around my age who grew up on the Beasties.

Paul's Boutique is still one of my top 5 albums of all time. That was a great album and a great group. It's quite alarming the amount of people in their 40's that have been passing away recently.

Paul's Boutique was awesome. All of their stuff was great and way ahead of their time.

License to Ill is one of my favs and honestly, so is Hello Nasty.

Read this earlier and am totally sick over it. I didn't realize the cancer came back. Last I heard he was saying he beat it a year ago. RIP MCA. Being near the same age and growing up Jewish in the NY area, the Beastie Boys were the guys we all wanted to be like. Cancer sucks!

This sucks! Junior Seau. MCA. These guys are my age........ I grew up on the Beasties, they're part of the soundtrack of my life. Definitely gonna hug the kids tonight & let the people I love know that I'm thinking of them.

License To Ill is still in my car's CD changer. Hasn't come out in over a decade.

Man I loved these guys as a young kid growing up in the 90's, in a decade when rap was actually good. R.I.P.

    Very sad.

Ill was one of the first CDs I ever bought and BB is still in heavy rotation on my iPod.

But I did read that his cancer wasn't a contributing factor.

I remember that too. We played the first side so much it wore out, that was before we ever got to the second side.

Beastie Boys kicked ass. They were a big part of my teenage years.

I remember in High school (pre cellphones) when people would ask what time is it, I'd always reply, "it's time to get ill". RIP MCA

Shame to see him go at such a young age. Their music came to me at the exact right(or wrong) time in my the teenage years. Hopefully they finished their final album.

On a lighter note, anyone who hasn't seen this should definitely check it out. Its a funny promotionl video they released before their last album. Thought it was cool that all the stars in it donated their time.

It's horrible that someone ( time and time again ) this young has died from such a horrible disease. Hopefully in the next 15-20 years genomic specialized cancer treatments will be in full effect giving anyone with cancer a better chance of getting it cured. Bioscience industry has come a long way to cure people like MCA, including the production of an ( comparatively speaking ) inexpensive genome. Genomics is the future of medicine people, it's just too bad it's not far advanced enough to have saved another life, MCA or the kid down the block dying of Leukemia.
With that said, it's scary how a cancer like throat/mouth cancer can metastasize like MCA's did. I'm sure none of us have the real scoop on it, however, it's a damn shame that people day in and day out have to suffer with this horrendous disease.

I saw this posted on Twitter today, an amazing list of all the songs sampled on all their albums.

I was more into Classic Rock when these guys started out, and I was pretty pissed they were ripping off Led Zeppelin riffs for their first album when it first came out.

But the songs are catchy and you can't deny they had something going on. As time went on and they showed they were more than a one trick pony is when I started to appreciate them. I am still not their biggest fan (still not a huge rap fan), I do like sabbotage and intergalactic, but cancer sucks and Adam Yauch was too young to pass away. He was only 2 years older than me.

He is calmer than you about the Ravens not opening the season at home.

To be fair Led Zeppelin ripped off a ton of people and only recently began to admit it. Go check out the changes in song writing credits listed now compared to an old Zeppelin album.
