Thread: Reed Missing Camp

Re: Reed Missing Camp
It's relatively well known that Ed Reed has some bi-polar issues and he doesn't have an agent.
There are many things people do that don't make sense to others.
IMHO, this was purely an attention grabber move...and knowing the team probably won't fine him because they bend over backwards to appease him (short of giving him a big new contract).

Re: Reed Missing Camp
I know it's offseason and many of us are looking for something to debate and discuss passionately. IMHO, this really is a non issue. We should be used to this kind of behavior from Ed. I don't think it's that big of deal until he starts missing training camp. Ed Reed will be ready and committed when training camp comes around.

Ed Reed at it again
From ESPN :

I guess $7.2 million, without an extension (LOL), isn't enough to show your face at "manditory" camp. I do believe Ray was there. Reed was one of the best Safeties of all time, but his past charisma has certainly worn off on me personally. Ravens team, please win this Super Bowl so we can send Ed out to pature and not have to put up with his complaints/moaning again.
ROH = YES
HOF = YES
resign/extend him = NO

Re: Reed Missing Camp
Ed Reed doesn't need to learn a new playbook or system. Ed's been running his own defensive scheme for years.

Re: Reed Missing Camp
Antics? Seriously?
Hes a perennial pro-bowler, all-pro and an absolute first ballot HOFer whos widely regarded as the best safety to ever play the game and is pretty much the undisputed best FREE safety to ever play the game.
Missing mini-camp is kind of a non-issue especially when reed says hes not quitting anytime soon.
Does he want a new contract. Yes, but who doesnt? Hes in the twilight of his career and wants all the money he can get before retirement. He has been asking for a new contract since 2009, but hes continued to play. I personally think the ravens need to give him an extension that will not take effect until next year.
I think a 3 year extension is more than deserving. Maybe 3 years, 21 million, 9 mill guaranteed.
Hes probably the most vocal person on our team outside of terrell suggs. But that a good thing considering he only brings this stuff up once or twice an off-season. Compared to a lot of other teams, us having stories about players wanting new contracts is better than the alternative of DUI's and arrests.
He wants to play for the ravens, I dont see why they wont extend his contract like they did to Ray Lewis
I hope you are joking. Ed Reed played lights out when we needed him to in the playoffs. Lights Out. Hes 1 year removed from 8 INT's in 10 games.
Why not extend him? Has he slowed down a tad bit? A little, but hes still the best FS in the game. He wants a new contract. Big deal, considering who he is and what he does for our defense, it shouldnt even be a debate. He brings ZERO off the field issues, all he wants is a contract extension so he knows his future and can retire a raven.

Re: Reed Missing Camp
I can't wait till we get a good safety and get rid of his butt. If he had the attitude of "I love my team" or I'll give everything I have and still have the fire in me" BS He would get a pass. But he is a whiney crybaby every year who doesn't know if he wants to play or isn't committed. He's 33 almost 34 and on the back side of his playing days. If he would shut the hell up and show up he might get something in return. Tired of the dude anyone else would be called a cancer.

Re: Reed Missing Camp
The reality is he is just hurting himself by doing all of this.
Yes, he is a future HOF'er, but that doesn't make it ok to treat the team and his team mates like this. Think of all the things he could be teaching Thompson, Pollard, and the rest of the secondary right now.
Ray Lewis also played out his contract, was a UFA, and then re-signed with Baltimore. Ray also hasn't - to my knowledge - held out and complained about his contract and essentially threatened to maybe retire and then maybe not...
I love Ed Reed as much as the next guy, but I'd really like to see him putting more focus on being a team player and helping the young guys during the off-season rather than doing this wishy-washy half in half out routine.When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt
