If I had $7mm today...
Ed is a no-show and has indicated that he could retire (though likely a bluff). So, what would the Ravens do with $7mm in found money this year? Obviously would need to address S issue somehow, but after that??

Re: If I had $7mm today...
The BEST think that could happen to the Ravens is for Ed Reed to retire and take his over-inflated opinion of himself into obscurity. The Giants won a Super Bowl without Ed Reed - and so can the Ravens.

Re: If I had $7mm today...
I know it's the off season but this'll work itself out. He'll be there when it matters...

At this point the extra cap space isn't going to help much. Reed will play out his year and then next season the team will decide how badly they want him back.

Re: If I had $7mm today...
Exactly.
It is simple. If he becomes a detriment to this team, then jump all over him.
Until then, whenever he has been on the field, he gives all he can.
He is one of the reasons why this team has gone as far as it has over the years of his HOF career.
It is like Ravens fans cannot just enjoy watching an all time great during his career.
We have been blessed with some great defensive players in the Ravens young existence.
Enjoy these last few years of Ray, Ed, Suggs, and Ngata on the same defense together.
Personally, I want Ed to retire as a Raven and I want him to play out his career here, period.
He didn't have his flashy stats last season, but when they needed him, he was there.
When they needed someone to cover Andre Johnson, he was there, including the interception to put the game away.
When they needed to stop Brady and get the ball back for Flacco and co, it was Ed knocking away Brady's last pass.

Yea...wouldnt be cool to see how dominant our defense could be with sean considine in centerfield??? Come on man!!! He only missed 3 powder puff june practices that they dont even wear pads for. He holds out training camp, we'll talk. Otherwise its much ado about jack shit!!!

Re: If I had $7mm today...
Hes not getting premium money anymore. He wants a fair deal and were more worried about joe and ray. Id feel a little slighted too but itll work out. I dont see ed reed in another teams jersey... And i dont think he does either.

Re: If I had $7mm today...
If Reed walks, then yes we did. Agree with the comments thus far...nothing really to be worried about yet and I think Reed will be there when it matters. I'm just saying that is a LOT of money to play with for the year if something late in the game could be worked out with another player. Slim chance, but interesting to think about.

Re: If I had $7mm today...
Yeah we'd be better off without a future HOF safety, and an all pro running back because they want long term deals according to some people around here.
Gotta love the offseason.

Re: If I had $7mm today...
That's what you consider right before free agency begins. At this point who is there left on the market who would help you more than Ed Reed? It's not like that money can be used towards Mario Williams or Vincent Jackson. Ed Reed vs those who've been trying to get a job for 3 months and can't isn't much of a contest.

Re: If I had $7mm today...
With or without Reed the Ravens will find a way to make it work. Reed has been one of my favorite players for a long time, I have even admitted that I like him more than Ray. But I really am getting sick of his antics. It's like he has a short memory. When Reed was in his prime the team took care of him. He didn't have to play out his rookie contract like they make so many other guys do. They went on and made him the highest paid safety in the league without batting an eye. If that's not respect what the hell is? Reed's antics and injuries over the last few years have given the Ravens plenty of reasons to try to severe ties with him and they have stuck by him.

Re: If I had $7mm today...
I also owner how many people would be saying "sign him" for $7mm a year if he were a free agent right now.

Re: If I had $7mm today...
Reed's injury history and retirement threats have seriously killed his market value. Could Reed pull a 3 year 21 million dollar deal? Probably but without a bonus and guaranteed money, its not worth the paper its printed on and that's where teams are going pull away from Reed. His next contract will be on a year by year basis.

Re: If I had $7mm today...
Yeah but the Giants also had Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, Mario Manningham, and Eli Manning playing the best football in his career. They also had a scary good defensive line and an all around solid defense towards the end of the season and into the play offs, so yeah they didn't need Ed Reed. However the Ravens can do without losing one of their star players after already losing Terrell Suggs for the majority of the regular season, aswell as losing Jarret Johnson, Cory Redding, and Ben Grubbs.

Re: If I had $7mm today...
He is an aging player, seeing his career near its end, with young players on the rise and is worried about his final major payday. This is not unusual. Personally, I think that what happened to Manning really scared him, because it may have reminded him that no player is sacred.
