Re: Josh Gordon, NFL Supplemental Draft
I swear this board could do a better job of running the Browns. Even if he turns into a future all pro player, no other team where probably going to cash in a second rounder on him, they could have waited till later.

Re: Josh Gordon, NFL Supplemental Draft
why didnt they draft Streeter or sign that UDFA excellector was talking about, they had plenty of chances for other similar prospects that didnt cost so much. 2nd round was way too high for any supplemental pick. i would have assumed once comp picks are in play, 3rd or 4th, he should have went at the earliest. a little shocking at just how horrible they are run.

Re: Josh Gordon, NFL Supplemental Draft
This guy better be a pro bowler...soon.
They likely gave away a high 2nd rounder for this guy.
We'll see...I think they completely panicked here...I don't think anybody else would have taken him before the 4th.
Oh well...moves whatever pick we have in round 2 up 1 spot.

Re: Josh Gordon, NFL Supplemental Draft
What a pitiful mess for this franchise. Weeden, regardless of how good he turns out to be, was an awful strategic pick and now this.
Look at it this way....if the Browns offered us Gordon straight up for Tommy Streeter right now, would you take it? Personally, I would not. Streeter comes without the off-the-field issues. Everything I've read about him says he's a good kid from a solid home. Streeter also played, and played well last year.
Gordon hasn't played a game since 2010 and has major character worries. And the Browns gave up a 2nd round pick in 2013 for him? They could have just drafted Streeter in the 6th round three months ago and got a player with a similar upside, without the numerous risks.
I think my 5 year old could beat the Browns in a game of chess.

Re: Josh Gordon, NFL Supplemental Draft
So basically, they no longer have a 2nd round pick in 2013?

Re: Josh Gordon, NFL Supplemental Draft
Yes, I believe so. As an example, we took Jared Gaither in the 5th round of the 2007 supplemental draft and had no 5th round pick in the 2008 draft.
Gaither was a great example of maximize the risk/reward factor of the supplemental draft.
Gaither IMO was a far superior prospect coming out of college than was Gordon.
1) Gaither was ranked as a top 10 offensive tackle nationally entering his junior season. Gordon was never regarded that highly.
2) Gaither's issues at UMD were academic in nature. He didn't come with the character/criminal issues that Gordon does.
3) Gaither played, and played very well, during the 2006 season before his academic issues arose. When he was taken in the 5th round, he was probably about 6-7 months removed from his last football game. Gordon has not played a snap of real football in 19 months.
And despite all of these clear reasons why Gaither was a more NFL-ready, less risky supplemental pick, he STILL went in the late 5th round of the supplemental draft (keep in mind that the 2007 draft came after a 13-3 season so the Ravens picked after virtually every other team). And Gordon goes in the 2nd round? It's utter mindlessness.Last edited by LukeDaniel; 07-12-2012 at 02:27 PM.

Re: Josh Gordon, NFL Supplemental Draft
Not to ramble, but this illustrates why the Browns are watching the playoffs every year and the Ravens are a win or two from the Super Bowl every year. The Browns are just oozing desperation right now.

Re: Josh Gordon, NFL Supplemental Draft
I mean I can understand the Richardson pick. I probably wouldn't have picked him there, simply based on the value of the position, but the guy is very, very talented and will likely be a difference maker.
However, this guy is just baffling. He has good measurables and if he turns out being a stud, I guess it was well worth it. But to give up what will be a top 15 pick in the second next year for him?
Would you take this guy and give up a chance at drafting a Courtney Upshaw, Alshon Jeffery, Cordy Glenn, Jon Martin, or even Coby Fleener or Stephen Hill?
I don't think I'd take this guy over any of those players. Who knows who will fall in the draft next year.
I just don't see how they were so incredibly desperate that they HAD to have him...I can see the 4th...even MAYBE a 3rd...but not a 2nd.

Re: Josh Gordon, NFL Supplemental Draft
So are we out of the UDFA game?
There were only 3 others and I haven't seen any info on them, don't think any were picked.
Syracuse FB Adam Harris helped two running backs to a 1,000+ season Delone Carter (2010) and Antwon Bailey (2011) But has had 3 concussions.
Larry Lumpkin LB of Carson-Newman a sub-4.8 40-yard dash on July 11. Saints and Seahawks were the only ones who watched.
Ed Wesley RB considered leaving TCU to enter the 2012 NFL Draft (ailing mother), but decided to stay. late March he changed his mind.Heinz Field Ketchup official ketchup of the Ravens?
