Panthers trade for Raiders' WR, Louis Murphy

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-louis-murphy/

Good move for the Panthers and the Raiders, IMO. The Raiders have a solid 1,2, and 3 with DHB, Jacoby Ford, and Denarius Moore. Might as well get something for a guy they weren't going to re-sign anyway. Gives the Panthers another legitimate deep threat opposite of Steve Smith.

No way. I love that guy. I really wish the Ravens could have made that trade. Louis Murphy is a real playmaker who just needs some direction. Wonder what the Panthers had to give up? Bet it wasn't much.

    Probably not.

However, it's more than what the Raiders would have gotten had he played out his contract there and hit free agency.

Murphy would have been the perfect #3 receiver here. Send him deep with Torrey and let them go make something happen, Ugh! Sucks that we couldn't make this happen

Honestly, I'd rather have Louis Murphy than Jacoby Jones.

Depends on what they gave up for him but he would've been a good addition.

Id agree with that. Not familiar if Murphy has ST ability or not, but hes a far better WR, imo.

Jacoby Jones is looking even more like a bad signing right now.

I too would have rather had Louis Murphy than Jacoby Jones. Oakland was a mess on offense, for most of his tenure there. A relocation to Baltimore would have provided him with a QB he never had and a quality WR opposite him that he never had. When he is healthy, Murphy is more consistent than Jones. If this trade was for a seventh round pick, I'll be upset.

i doubt if it was a 7th but I'd speculate it was no better than a 5th

Panthers remain busy...trade RT Jeff Otah to the Jets for a conditional draft pick.

That could mean the Jets are ready to give up on Vladmir Ducasse

And Wayne Hunter. Otah is a good player...when he's healthy...which is almost never.

LOL......perhaps we should just wait and see what Jones does on the field - heck, even ONE TC practice - before we make any declarations about the signing - one way or another.

Murphy was available for only a "conditional late round pick", while Jones was fairly coveted as a FA. In the end, maybe Murphy will prove to be better, but it's waaaaay too early to make any such pronouncements about which one would have been a better signing.

Have to agree with Ravor. Jones might just suprise us.

I don't need to see what JJ can do. Don't you remember how inconsistent this guy was in Houston?

I'm not real high on the Jacoby signing, but maybe he'll pan out in Baltimore. Who knows. I doubt it...but I've been wrong before.

Im not ready to call Jones a bust by any means, but if youre asking me who id rather have, its Murphy, and thats even considering wed have to used a pick for him. He has the same big play potential but surer hands and is more consistent. Coming from a team with a not so good passing attack he stood out vs Jones coming from a great offense and never standing out. Doesnt mean Jones cant be good here but without a doubt i would have rather had Murphy.
