Re: AFC North News - Browns to be Sold?

Haslam is over 80. Knowing the Browns luck he'll buy the team then drop dead. His know nothing heirs inherit and the Browns fans are in the exact same spot they're in now.

LOL! As much as I would love that since I think Jim Brown is the greatest NFL player of all time, I wouldn't wish a Colts situation on any city. Jim Brown would be the first one to want his legacy to stay in Cleveland.

    Yeah, just funnin' ya!

Funny, though, imagine the whole can of "karmic disarray and emotional distress" worms that would open for the fans of Cleveland - "Are we a 'NEW' team, or do we retain our storied history?"

  4. Re: AFC North News - Browns to be Sold?

NFL networkjust reportedthat Haslam stated he was "100,000 Percent a Steelers fan. But he will keep the team in Cleveland."

Seriously, What's in Cleveland? Dedicated Fans Yes, For a fact they lead the nation in drifters, And you can buy a house for the price of a VCR. LOL I Love the Come on down to Cleveland Town Everyone Song on Youtube. Classic

If they can get a local Owner then it should tell you the direction of the team. But then again we saw that Peter Angelos also.

Re: AFC North News - Browns to be Sold?

In a 2010 investor profile on the Steelers website, Haslam says he was originally a Cowboys fan and later a Colts fan. But business developments caused him to have a change of heart.
Given that, plus the fact that he went to Tennessee and his brother is the governor of that state, I imagine his only real sports allegiance is to the Vols. I figure that he probably wanted to buy the Titans, but old man McNair wouldn't sell or kick the bucket soon enough, so he took the opportunities that arose.

This could be good or bad for Cleveland. Good in that the Titans are in his home state and so he wouldn't be in a hurry to move them there like Clay Bennett and the Sonics. Bad in that he doesn't have any allegiance at all to Cleveland. He could have one foot in Cleveland and one in LA for all we know. Most new owners say they're committed to keeping the team in the city they're currently located in. Bennett said the same and look how that turned out.

Hopefully it'll end up being good for them, though not too good.

Interesting that the guy is already an investor in the Steelers. Will he have to divest his interests in that club to become the Browns owner?

    Haslam got ripped off.

No way the Brownies are worth $1 billion. Maybe a 6 pack of Heineken and a bag of chips.

That was one of the conditions. The NFL won't let you own more than 1 team for obvious reasons.

Yes, and look at it this way...the Browns usually win about 5 games a season, so that's $200,000,000.00 per victory. Not money well spent, I'd say... Bc

Not to veer off into the political arena, but will Obamacare cover the future health issues for the Browns?

Just what browns fans need. A Steelers fan who bleeds mustard yellow, now owns their beloved browns.

That guy had a list of teams he was a fan of before he put money into the Steelers. It sounds like what he's really a fan of is being a NFL owner.
