In other words, I'd rather have Oher or Osemele play LT in 2012 even if they can only play at just below the level of McKinnie, because there's a much higher chance those two guys can IMPROVE, versus McKinnie who will never be better than he already is. In fact, it's not unreasonable to think that he at his age, poor level of motivation, and poor physical condition he could start to precipitously decline at any point.

I trust the team to evaluate the talent we have at OL and select the best 5 players. McKinnie should only start at LT if he is a significantly better option for the entire 2012 season than Oher or Osemele. And the mere fact that we were "rated in the top 10 (by whom? by what measure?)" doesn't mean anything. If we were #9, and we could be #1 by making a personnel change, it's a no-brainer.
Sorry, but that makes no sense.

If McKinnie is better than Oher at LT, he should start there.

If Oher is better than KO at RT, he should start there.

    Period.

McKinnie is listed as first team LT on official depth chart. Oher at RT. I am happy to see that because that lineup gives the team the best chance to win. Hopefully KO will be able to push Bobbie Williams for the LG spot.

    Ravens 2013 OL:

    ??? - Reid - Gradkowski - Yanda - Osemele

This might not be too bad. We still need a long term answer at LT. But if Gradkowski and Osemele are as good as they sound to be, this line could be pretty solid.

Oher is under contract for 2013.

And honestly that line would scare me to death.

I think the good thing is we dont have many glaring needs and we'll have a full draft including a couple compensatory picks coming. LT tackle should and im sure will be addressed early in the next draft. Because of those lack of glaring needs and the possibility of those compensatory picks i could see the Ravens even trading up if necessary to get their guy at the position.

I'm a card-carrying member of the "I don't understand the O-line part of football", so take my post with a grain or two of salt, but isn't Williams the favorite for LG? Even the Ravens site shows him as the #1 on their depth chart.

I thought Oher was a FA after this season?

KO is an unlikely to start unless of injury. Maybe next year.

Clady is close to an extension. The Texans and the Fish aren't going to let their franchise LT's go.

The Ravens will have to draft their LT but picking 32nd is going to be very tough getting a guy along the lines of the ones mentioned above.

If KO does well at RT, I still think he has a shot to move over to the blindside. From what I saw yesterday, he's taller than Oher by a couple of inches and bigger with impossibly long arms. If his footwork ends up being better than advertised than he'll get a shot. He also could end up at LG next year where he was projected this year so who knows.

unless something has happened recently clady and denver are very far from an extension, they offered him 5 yrs $50mil and he flat out said no. He wants jake long, joe thomas money, nearer the 7yr $100mil money.

Reid is way too lanky to play LG. A better line would be:
    Oher - Osemele - Gradkowki - Yanda - Reid

It would be a vast youth movement, but could set us up for years.

The 5/$50mil was the last reported offer but if he wants 7/$100 or even close to that the Ravens aren't going to pay it.

The best bet for a long term solution at LT is to draft him if Oher or even KO don't work out.
