    Re: Ben sprains ankle

I don't understand, even a little bit, what makes people call this guy a drama queen. The guy plays through so many injuries it's staggering. He took shit for his ankle injury last year, but he pretty clearly could barely walk with it and there's no question it hurt his play. His nose got broken in half by Ngata and he played through it. He takes crushing hits and plays through them and though I wouldn't want him long term simply because I can't imagine it's possible for his body to hold up for more than a couple more years at most, there are maybe only three or four quarterbacks in the NFL who I think are better.

And given that, the Steeler fans have to be REALLY concerned with what's going on this preseason. Roethlisberger's shoulder has got to be a concern. Not because it will likely hurt him during the season. But because it makes it more likely it winds up fully torn at some point during the season (while he's taking one of his dozens of crushing hits), and because those injuries are insanely difficult to come back from. And his ankle injury has to be concerning because it's the same ankle as he injured at the end of last year, and he very clearly was not the same QB after he injured it...
Prior to and post injury stats:
    276/429 (64.3%) 3,526 yds (8.22 YPA) 21 TD, 11 INT
    70/124 (56.5%) 840 yds (6.77 YPA) 1 TD, 4 INT
Reinjury of that ankle, should it impact his play, could be devastating for their prospects.

Their D is likely to continue its track record of excellence. They did a fantastic job this off-season of shoring up their two biggest weaknesses from last year (D front seven and OL). Their only weakness is RB, which we don't truly know the quality of player they have there. And they're coming off a 12 win season. Every sign points to them being one of the best teams in the NFL this year. But this is the one thing that could side-track them. Not that they'll suddenly fall into the basement. But if Roethlisberger is either ineffective like he was at the end of last year, or out entirely, it takes them from the elite to the good, and has a massive impact on their Super Bowl prospects.

Because he revels in the fact that he is a "tough guy" and he "plays through injuries." He loves talking about how often he gets hurt because he loves the drama it produces. He'll publicize every little injury he gets so that when he toughs it out (which to his credit, he is a tough SOB) people will recognize him as such.

Everyone would prefer if he would shut up and play. Players get hurt all the time and play through pain all the time. He seems to celebrate it, which is why he is a a drama queen.

He brings the criticism on himself. Ed Reed has been hurt for God knows how long along with alot of other players. Its just funny because he is the only guy in the NFL you hear this from. I think it is a way to protect himself if he has a bad game or season. With no MW and no running game I'm sure each bump gets magnified by a 1000.

EXACTLY. Tough guys don't need to preface their play by letting you know that they have a boo-boo.

Because when he was playing with a hurt ankle last year, I believe during the second Ravens game (it's hard for me to keep track his oh so tough performances) between the plays he would hobble around like his leg was broken, but the second the ball was snapped he move around in the pocket with relative ease. Yes, we know he was playing hurt; but he plays it up BIG TIME.
"A lot" is a two word expression denoting a great deal or greatly, as in "I like sunshine a lot." "Alot" is a lovable imaginary grammar monster. You can love a lot; you can love an alot; you can love alots a lot; but they are not the same thing.

Notice how ALL of his injuries are significant, but not significant enough that it could put him our for a period of time or even the season. He will say all this, and then say "but I'm still going to play", and then go back on his injury along with all the Steelers fan base if he has a bad game. I honestly think the guy is still a top 5 QB in the league, and has been a great Steeler, but damn just get on with it man.

I'm about to throw up in my mouth, but a lot of this is perpetuated by the sports media, who like to make Rothlisberger's injuries maybe a little more drama filled than they need to be. This is a media that likes to make everything out of Roth, Tebow, Brady and TO.

Besides, I've learned to tune all that out.

Because he has to bring up every nick and scratch, then say it isn't a big deal. Please refer to his rotator cuff comments.

The media can't force him what to say or when to say it.

James Harrison played all of the 2010 season with multiple disc injuries. You didn't hear a word about it until after the season, when he had surgery.

That's garbage. The media is what throws all that out there and asks him about it constantly.

Can you give some examples? Serious question, I'm not trying to be a smart-ass. How is he going above and beyond with this stuff?

I just don't buy it. Someone said he limps around till he gets the snap. Um, that's what literally everyone does when they're hurt...you limp around when you don't have to go 100%, and then you suck it up and play through pain when you do. And like I said, it VERY clearly impacted his play.

I totally do not buy the drama queen argument. His presence on the field makes that team SIGNIFICANTLY better, and he plays through a lot of injuries to give them the best chance to win.

My example is the media narrative shifting.

He was once thought of as tough as nails. Now, even Steelers friendly ESPN mocks him.

The NFL Live and Around the Horn crews mocked him last week.

I don't deny he's tough. It's how he now handles that image that changed people's image of him.

The media throws it out there? I guess they just guess which part hurts that day or does he just agree with them telling him which part of him is hurt. Its really not a big deal to be honest but I would expect it from 8 year old ballarina not a professional football player.

    PSU,

Last I checked this was a Ravens board. Not sure why you're so confused as to why people aren't on your side while backing up that jackass "alleged" rapist! The dude is a drama queen and a scumbag to boot.

The media can't force him what to say and when to say it. Did you see the interview with the whole torn rotator cuff thing?

He was asked about his shoulder and instead of saying "It's sore, but it'll be fine" he went into a whole diatribe detailing how he hurt it in November against the Ravens and played through it and how it is still a little torn rotator cuff. He went out of his way to tell us that "Hey this was injured last year and I played through it- look how tough I am."

Did the media ask for any of that information? No. Those are the things that show he is a drama queen. He never downplays anything he always plays up all his injuries, not that they aren't legitimate, but there are other ways to go about disclosing injuries that aren't so dramatic. Hence: drama queen.

Most NFL players would say that they are never 100% injury free except for that first game of the season. Him playing hurt does count for something, but pointing that out at every opportunity especially in a game where coaches go leaps and bounds to hide that sort of thing, Drama Queen.
