Thread: Chris Ivory

Chris Ivory
Watching the HOF game last night, I noticed that the Saints really do have a talented stable of RB's on their team. Darren Sproles is a slightly underrated RB in the league because of his size, but if he had more carries, he'd arguably be a 1k + type RB. Piere Thomas is arguably the best back up RB in the league right now (Michael Bush may have something to say about that). And the kid from Alabama will be in the long term plans of being the true featured back on that offense.
I have always really liked Chris Ivory though, who right now seems like the odd man out, so I got to thinking, would the Saints consider putting Ivory on the trade block? With Bernard Pierce constantly hurt (this was one of the knocks he had coming out of college too), AA seemingly not being very impressive, and two of the UDRFA's while impressing in camp, are not a stable of backs you'd be very confident in relying on should Rice go down hurt. Chris Ivory looked good pounding the ball last night (albeit against a bunch of 3rd stringers) but always looked explosive back in 2010 when he was healthy. I think he'd make a great compliment and change of pace back to Rice.
Any interest in him?

I like Ivory but I wouldn't give up much for him. Maybe a late round pick?

Re: Chris Ivory
Why would Ivory be the odd man out? The Saints have seen a ton of injuries at the position the past couple of years. Ivory is only 24 and had some big games when they needed him. I can't see them moving him. They always seem to have 1 less TE and 1 more RB than most teams.

eh...probably not. At least not until I gave Pierce a chance to get healthy and see what he can do in camp.

Pierre Thomas always has nagging injuries and the jury is out on Ingram. Unless a team really blew them away with an offer for Ivory they're not getting rid of him. He's dirt cheap and has been productive. I'd trade a 5th in a second for him but I can't see him being available for that.

I don't think he goes either. Ingram has shown promise but his health is a concern--although the Saints say they're comfortable with him health-wise right now--and Thomas always seems to have some ailment or another. Plus, if something should happen to Sproles, Ivory's skill set most resembles what Sproles brings to the table in terms of explosiveness and play-making ability.

Re: Chris Ivory
If anyone goes it would probably be Thomas.

Re: Chris Ivory
I like Thomas and Ivory.
But I've got Bobby Rainey fever. kinda, sorta. I liked him as a FA signing. He's got a rice-esque skillset.
And I am still intrigued to see what Pierce, Berry and Allen can do.
