A change for Torrey Smith?
From his twitter page:
Clearly this was a topic of discussion last year after the first game against the Bengals in Baltimore in which he was held by his dreads. He has worked very hard this offseason to become a much more complete receiver and this could be the final piece to his transformation.Torrey Smith @TorreySmithWR
I think I might cut my dreads off soon

Re: A change for Torrey Smith?
Julio Jones did it. Says he feels faster now.

Re: A change for Torrey Smith?
I personally see the long hair/dreads as an impedance to players rather than a compliment. It looks cool on some players, but functionally it can cause problems.

Re: A change for Torrey Smith?
I wonder what he'd look like... it's gonna be weird, like having a new WR on the team

Re: A change for Torrey Smith?
Good...then when Pacman can't hang with Torrey over the middle of the field this time around he won't be able to drag him down by his dreads.
When it comes to quarterbacks, don't pay attention to stats; pay attention to guys who make crucial plays at crucial times. -Gil Brandt

Re: A change for Torrey Smith?
Agreed. I'd hate for him to be injured because somebody yanked him down by the hair. Wouldn't even get a flag thrown for it.

Re: A change for Torrey Smith?
I know it sounds crazy JLMB... but part of the game is mental. If this is part of his 2012 game preparation, part of his initiation to next level training regiment or just creating a new image... it can make a difference. Just "taping up" and eye paint can make for a huge mental transformation for some people.

Re: A change for Torrey Smith?
If Torrey cuts his hair and sucks this year some people here will be all "he lost his confidence and 'swag' with the dreads".
His hair doesn't matter.

Re: A change for Torrey Smith?
What he oughta do is to have the dreads excised an hour or so before the opener--
& then have them reattached to the remaining hair very, very loosely before he puts the helmet on.
I can see (& hear) it now:Flacco back to pass, he's got Torrey on a quick slant, Jones moves in for the tackle--No way! He grabbed the dreads & they came off in his hands! Torrey at the 30, 20, 10, touchdowwwwwwwn Rrrrravens!
And it would make every highlight reel (& every blooper reel) in the multiverse...
Heck, at least he ought to think (publicly) about doing it--it'd make 'em think twice before they grabbed at 'em. (Threat > execution of threat)

Re: A change for Torrey Smith?
I'd be LMAO but i think the No Fun League would penalize him.
If someone grabbed Torrey by the hair they would not be penalized because hair is part of the body and any part of the body can be used in a tackle, with some restrictions on just how you make the tackle. This also extends to the jersey. In the same way that teams can not use tear away jerseys, i don't believe they could use detachable body parts.
