Re: Suggs on Track for Return This Season
For you and everyone else too lazy to read the entire thread...
6.5 months would be a minor miracle, especially with a pass rusher who has to push off on that leg to create pressure. How many soccer or hockey players need to drive through a 350lb tackle?Of the 31 players who sustained an Achilles tendon rupture, 21 (64%) returned to play in the NFL at an average of 11 months after injury. In the three seasons following their return, those 21 players saw significant decreases in games played and power ratings compared to the three seasons preceding the injury.
The percentage of players returning to play at the NFL level is consistent with a meta-analysis performed by Bhandari4 in 2002. The authors reported return to function rates of 63% for patients treated nonoperatively and 71% for those treated operatively. If we assume that all the NFL players were treated operatively, as would be the standard for young athletes, the return to play rate of 64% is slightly lower than the 71% reported in the meta-analysis. This difference could be attributed to the excessive demands placed on the operatively repaired Achilles tendon in NFL players combined with a body size, strength, and explosiveness that would further increase these demands.
The length of time to allow full activity after Achilles tendon repair is generally thought to be four to six months.4-6 The 11 months needed to return to play as a professional football player seems considerably longer. However, there is a major difference between allowing full activity and returning to play in the NFL. Even when the typical patient is allowed to participate in full activity, it does not mean that he or she is adequately rehabilitated to perform at maximal efforts. Studies to determine maximal improvement after surgical treatment are lacking in the orthopedic literature.

Re: Suggs on Track for Return This Season
Reading comprehension test. In the context of the paragraph you quoted, what does the following line mean?
"Studies to determine maximal improvement after surgical treatment are lacking in the orthopedic literature."
Answer? There has not been enough study done to suggest a firm timetable for a return to "maximal effort."
Effect on your point? There is no accepted timetable for a return to maximal effort, thus, Suggs could very well hit that six month point and he capable of "maximal effort."

When you have the balls to stand up to 40 different people firing shots at you all day long come talk to me.
I stand by what I have read, and I have the facts to back it up in a shitload of cases. Links posted. Statistics for FOOTBALL players. They have Wally Williams, and a hope and a prayer.
$50 booked people, easy money come and get it. Why the hesitation?

Moving the goal posts I see? First it was professional athlete...now it is a football player...got it.
I'm just curious, but do you ever actually look at the stuff you post on here?

Re: Suggs on Track for Return This Season
My hubby worked the security detail for the Haloti Ngata fundraiser event last night. He had the pleasure of escorting each Ravens player from their vehicle to the VIP room as they arrived. One of them was Suggs and he said you would never know Suggs was ever injured by the way he walks. On the way in, some fans were screaming "Suggs, when are you coming back, we need you" and Suggs stated "Soon...very,very soon". So he does not walk with a limp at all and he assured the fans he WAS coming back very soon... straight from the horse's mouth.

Even if Suggs isn't physically 100%, the football instincts and knowledge he'll bring will be a huge asset for at least being able to contain plays, I think.

Re: Suggs on Track for Return This Season
You said no one can come back in less than 8 months. I proved someone has.
You said no one has, I proved you wrong, while he may not have had surgery, he still had a tear and came back n three months, which to me is less than 8.
This argument is possibly stopped now there's about 6 pages but I thought I'd reply anyway.Last edited by arnie_uk; 10-03-2012 at 07:37 AM.

Re: Suggs on Track for Return This Season
No running away here. I know I'm right and your wrong. You said no one has came back, I proved you wrong. I haven't checked that other article, and I never read this article at the time but I'm sure it says brownlee tore his Achilles and came back in three months... Which again to me is less than 8 months which you claimed no one has came back from.
I've since seen your arguing from surgery after reading through the thread, but that's not what you said at the start. So yes he didn't have surgery I knew that, but from what I could see you we're just talking about a tear, you didn't mention the recovery method.Last edited by arnie_uk; 10-03-2012 at 07:42 AM. Re: Suggs on Track for Return This Season
I would love to see Suggs be able to come back sooner rather than later, but the main thing is that he should be back and in good playing shape by late December at the latest. The Ravens are probably going to get into the playoffs, and might even win the AFC North even without Suggs. The Ravens are going to really need him against some of the better OL in the playoffs though. I am sure that Suggs wants to try and come back Week 7, but the Ravens will most likely be very cautious with him. The Ravens are pretty good about not rushing players back from injury too soon.

Mods, can we get a shut down and a reboot on this thread? It's worth talking about but this has gotten a little out of hand and it's only spiraling further down the drain.
