I can imagine they know that Bobby is wasting a roster spot but they also know if they tried to cut him and put him back ont the PS he'd be gone. He was an obvious deletion to make room for Johnson, once they knew they could protect their future interest in him.
They also resigned Dennis Dixon to the P-Squad...makes me think the Steelers were sniffing around for his services.

I think the move definitely indicates that Jimmy's going to be out for awhile. Especially, if it is a sport hernia, he could be done for the year. I remember Johnson being a speedy, physical CB for Oakland and was a pretty nice compliment to Nnamdi. I'm interested to see what his role is. I'd definitely like to see what Asa Jackson has too.

I dont think Jimmy is out a while and i dont think this move has much to do with him. When webb went down we never got another CB to replace him for depth purposes, whereas when Ray went down we got another LB. We have been dressing 5 CBs most before webb went down and now we dress 4 per game games and Asa is clearly not ready to go yet, he needs a year to watch in my view. so we needed that 5th CB to dress incase there is an injury during the game.

BTW- Jimmys injury is a groin that is tight not a sports hernia.

Sports hernia really isn't that serious, it can just be really painful to work through, it's by no means season ending though. The question is whether or not Jimmy Smith can be effective out there with the hernia, Torrey Smith was last year, but Jimmy appears to have a more painful hernia. Worse case scenario, they probably sit him for 2 or 3 weeks.

More quality veteran depth at a position where we've had some injuries.
What's not to like about this move?

People are really worried about Jimmy Smith missing time?

You're always worried about a first round draft pick with that much potential not getting experience.

Not necessarily true. If it's an inguinal and it pops out while playing, which is likely during contact it can twist, which would require immediate surgery because his intestine would be knotted.

I had one in my sophmore year and it twisted, not fun

For a DB that is cutting and accelerating constantly to keep up with receivers, I'd say it's pretty serious.

    I Like this signing.

He's big, fast (jury's still out), can play ST, and has pretty decent expereince at CB.

Sounds like his problems in oakland started as physical and morphed to family-related. Hopefully the physical problems are behind him and he's found some peace with his loss:

He was always a decent CB for Oakland. Think about what Cary Williams was for the Ravens last year, but on a slightly lower level. His ball skills are 'okay'. He's not really going to get beat badly. He'll be in the play and he tackles well. At his age, given the circumstances, he could find a nice home here in Baltimore.

Can we add this name to the Walker list? Names we can't mention on this forum?

rrr - you're confusing sport hernia with inguinal hernia. Sports hernia is a different entity. In fact it is a misnomer, with no true anatomic herniation. It is a spectrum of tendon / muscle abnormalities including the adductors muscles of the thighs and the rectus abdominus muscle at their attachments onto the pubic bones.

Fabe was no were near as bad as Walker PI bro.
After his injury, yes he was done. He played ok prior to that, but like Cary Williams had hands of stone, but even when he was square he couldn't catch I'll give Cary that atleast, even though he gets toasted on a reg.

Yeah Fabian played at a pro bowl level under Rex in 2008. If he could catch he would have easily led the league in interceptions. He had to have dropped atleast 10.

Just FYI, Smith has just had groin surgery & will be out 4-6 weeks. Chicken&egg situation, maybe--did they sign Johnson because they knew Jimmy needed surgery, or did signing Johnson shore up the DB depth enough that they were willing to take a chance on life without a gimpy Jimmy Smith for the rest of the season?

For that matter, used properly, Walker wasn't as bad as his "Walker PI" reputation--his forte was jamming slot receivers but he got pressed into service on the outside where the opponents' best WRs would beat him like a rented mule.

Wow brother, you should read a few more post before hacking away at keys. Most of this thread is about Jimmy having Surgery and being out.

Um, sorry, but you're wrong. I looked through the entire thread & only posted this when I saw there had been no mention of the surgery herein. You must be confusing this thread with Luke Daniel's "Jimmy Smith Has Had Groin Surgery" thread.
