Jimmy Smith has had groin surgery
I had heard that it was a sports hernia.....
gregg rosenthal @greggrosenthal
Very vulnerable in secondary. RT @Ravens: CB Jimmy Smith has had groin surgery. He's expected to be back before the end of the season.

Re: Jimmy Smith has had groin surgery
oh man or D is getting hit hard this season.
"It's like a rerun ... Everybody knows how this story ends, with us and the Steelers. It's about time we changed it, and give people something new. Right now, it's kind of like we pride ourselves on being a bully, but they're the ones that keep knocking us out of the playoffs. So they're the bully. One day you just got to say '[screw] it' and punch the bully totally in his mouth. Then they won't bully you any more." T-Sizzle

Whoa! That's a big blow. I guess we will see what our depth is like now. I wonder if we'll see Asa Jackson at all.

Re: Jimmy Smith has had groin surgery
And people wanted to trade Cary Williams this offseason.
Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

This was probably why he wasn't pressing.
Tough to shuffle and flip your hips quickly with a groin situation.

Re: Jimmy Smith has had groin surgery
4-6 weeks I bet. I bet it's at least 6 weeks before he hits the field. But we've seen some crazy shit this year, i.e Suggs.
This Sucks, but this is where new and undiscovered talent steps up. I'm excited to see what we have in Jackson, Brown.. etc.

Re: Jimmy Smith has had groin surgery
Given this with Jimmy Smith, kind of wish we made a play for Aqib Talib. Headcase or not.
Hindsight.

The Smith kid, just cant stay healthy. Feel bad for him. It will hurt most in the nickel and dime package. Not sure their is any droppoff from Graham to either Williams/Smith. Graham would start on a lot of teams. Now, the question is do you use Graham on ST's as much, cant risk injury to him is the trickle down effect.

Re: Jimmy Smith has had groin surgery
What is it about cornerbacks that makes them so injury prone?
As someone above stated, we've been incredibly fortunate with injuries the last two years. However, of the few injuries we've had, they always seem to revolve around cornerbacks.
2011- we were nearly completely healthy at every position (Lee Evans excluded). Yet, at CB we had multiple-week missing injuries to Carr and Smith and Foxworth
2010- Foxworth missed whole year.
2009- Webb missed 2nd half of year. Fabian Washington missed 6 games.
2008- McAlister misses final 11 games. Rolle misses final 6.

Re: Jimmy Smith has had groin surgery
The good thing is we only face one legit QB in rivers in the next 4 weeks since Ben is out which is a plus. I would say they play it safe with him and he comes back for the Giants game. He will probably start running and doing football drills in 3-4 weeks and can practice in 4 which would make the giants game (week 16) a decent return game for him. He has healed quickly as this has been nagging and he has played through it. It was good they took care of it now so he is fresh for the playoffs and hopefully the last 2 games of the regualr season.
