Is Justin Tucker the next Matt Stover?

If recent history is any indication, Tucker could end up surpassing Stover not just in the record books but in the hearts of Ravens fans everywhere.

For the second time in the last three weeks, the Ravens sophomore has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week .  Tucker also earned the honor of AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for November, which was announced earlier on Wednesday.

“Thx! Got the best LS & P/H in the league hookin it up!” Tucker tweeted after the team congratulated him on the accomplishment.

Against the Jets, Tucker was rock solid and provided field goals of 30, 26, 33 and 53 yards, giving the Ravens their only points until late in the third quarter when Joe Flacco connected with Jacoby Jones on a long touchdown pass.

The weather conditions have been anything but kind for the Ravens kicking game recently. Neither the windy conditions against the Jets, nor the driving winds and rains he faced a week earlier against the Bears, seemed to phase him at all.

Tucker has excelled in his first two seasons with the Ravens. In 2012, he connected on 30 of 33 field goal attempts and also had four field goals of 50-yards or more, which rank as a Ravens single-season record.

This season Tucker has found himself in familiar territory and currently has four field goals from 50 yards or beyond with five games remaining in the regular season.

The former Texas Longhorn has now connected on 22 straight field goals and is 24-for-26 this season, which by the way is the longest active streak in the NFL. With one more field goal, Tucker will have the second-longest field goal streak in franchise history. Former kicker Matt Stover currently holds the record with 36.

As many fans remember, Stover’s leg carried this team offensively for many years when the team was struggling to find an identity on offense. With the offense seemingly struggling to produce touchdowns this year, they’ve relied on Tucker more and more.

Tucker has truly shined in the purple and black. From his firery mentality after kicking a field goal to his calmness of singing opera in the locker room or his giving back to the community, Ravens fans once again have a kicker whose jersey they are proud to wear.
