KIDZ KORNER: Young players step up in huge win

Wasn’t Sunday fun? Joe Flacco flat out torched the Raiders defense, and the defensive line finally exhibited what they are capable of. With the line’s six batted balls, they all looked like J.J “Swatt” out there.
The O-Line didn’t show up when it came to run blocking, but they provided QB Joe plenty of time to launch the ball to his weapons all afternoon long.
While everyone is ecstatic about the way our stars played, I am thrilled about the way some of our young guys stepped up! They showed that our future is just as bright as it is now!
DeAngelo Tyson was one of the bright spots that shined like a star yesterday. Tyson played because of the injury to Haloti Ngata, who didn’t see one snap on the field. Tyson channeled his inner J.J Watt, batting down two balls and making multiple plays stopping the run.
A 7th round pick out of Georgia in 2012, he has been taking advantage of every opportunity. Coaches are high on him not because of his size (6-3 306lbs) and ability, but because his leadership is outstanding. As a senior at Georgia, he received the coaches’ leadership award, and was selected to play in the East-West Shrine game.
With the injuries to Pernell McPhee and Ngata, he may see some extended time next week at Pittsburgh. His name might not stand out to you yet, but I guarantee that you will be hearing it a lot more very soon!
Laquan Williams seems to have slipped out of the game plan, and his role has been taken by Tandon Doss.
Doss, who was a “Flacco Favorite” in the 2011 draft, has seen the field in limited roles before. But on Sunday, he was on the field in multiple shotgun formations and was set up to receive targets. We had heard that in Training Camp, Doss showed his athleticism by making circus catches all over the practice field. On Sunday, we all got to see that first hand.
Flacco received the snap from Matt Birk, and dropped back to pass. He saw a WIDE OPEN receiver over the middle, and fired a missile. But this time, Flacco’s arm appeared to be too strong and he looked to have misfired. But wait…is that, Torrey Smith? No. Jacoby Jones? No. It’s TANDON DOSS!
Doss leaped and managed to snatch the ball out of the air. He ended up hauling it in, falling in the process and gaining 26 yards.
It has now become clear that Doss has jumped ahead of Williams on the depth chart and I believe that his role could become increased even more when the Ravens game plan will be predominantly pass.
Finally, Justin Tucker solidified on Sunday that John Harbaugh made the right move by signing him.
J-Tuck booted two shots yesterday including a 48-yarder that put the team up 3-0 on the first possession.
Could #9 be the next #3? We’re just going to have to see how it all plays out.
