Lots of familiar faces in San Diego for Ravens fans

You will be seeing some familiar faces on the Chargers when the Baltimore Ravens take the field against them at 4:30 PM EST. Currently, San Diego has five former Ravens that will be active against their former team. They include OLB Jarret Johnson, OLB Antwan Barnes, FB Le’Ron McClain, DT Aubrayo Franklin, and CB Chris Carr.

Johnson was drafted by the Ravens in 2003 and became one of the most reliable players in franchise history. He surpassed Peter Boulware’s franchise record for most consecutive starts in 2010 and was often referred to as the defense’s ironman. Though the Ravens wanted to keep him on their roster, his price on the free agent market became too high this offseason and the Chargers were able to sign him to a four-year deal.

Antwan Barnes was drafted by the Ravens in the fourth round in the 2007 NFL Draft. He proved to be a standout player on special teams and started to see more time on defense towards the end of his tenure with the Ravens. His only career interception came against his current team, the Chargers, in 2009.

The Ravens took Le’Ron McClain three picks after Barnes in 2007 and he quickly developed into one of the league’s premier fullbacks, earning two Pro Bowl selections in 2008 and 2009. He became part of the Ravens’ “three-headed monster,” which included running backs Willis McGahee and Ray Rice, as they lead the Ravens to the AFC Championship in 2008. McClain saw a diminished role in the years that followed and signed with the Chiefs in 2011 as the Ravens acquired FB Vonta Leach.

Aubrayo Franklin was selected by the Ravens during the 5th round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He was mainly a role player, but did make several tackles during his first two seasons. He had a productive outing in 2005, accumulating 20 tackles and his first career sack before the Ravens let him go after the following season.

The Ravens signed Carr in 2009 as a returner and to provide depth at their lacking secondary. When Fabian Washington and Lardarius Webb went down with injuries, Carr became a big part of the Ravens defense and had a successful season with 44 tackles and 2 interceptions. The Ravens re-signed Carr to a four-year deal in 2011 but released him in the following offseason as he missed most of the 2011 season.

While the Chargers have their fair share of Ravens on their roster, the Ravens will also have someone on their sideline that once wore the navy and gold – offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, who served as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator from 2002-2006.
