Ogden About to Become a Legend of the Game

JO HOF

Owings Mills, MD – The team is off today, but this evening Ravens fans will turn their attention to Canton, Ohio, for Ogden’s induction.

His greatness as a left tackle is well documented – 12 seasons, 11-time Pro Bowler, 10-time All-Pro. However, Ogden was more than just a phenomenal player. He set the tone for a franchise. He was the Ravens’ first ever draft pick, and he was general manager Ozzie Newsome’s first pick. Imagine if Ogden had been a bust. Instead, he’s getting a bust in Canton.

Even today, Newsome has trouble quantifying how important Ogden was to the organization.

“The foundation of this franchise stands on Jonathan and Ray (Lewis),” said Newsome, who will present Ogden on Saturday. “But, Jonathan was first. To have someone like that, then if you combine that with Ray. Anytime that a player walked into the locker room for the first 12 years, they saw what it took to be a Raven. Jonathan was a big part of that because of the way he practiced, the way he prepared, and the way he carried himself off the field.”

The Ravens had high expectations for Ogden, but he actually exceeded them. The Hall of Fame is place for great players. Ogden should feel right at home Saturday night.
