Ravens @ Browns Friday Injury Report and Game Status

ko

The Ravens got some bad news on the injury front this afternoon. Guard Kelechi Osemele had been battling back problems for most of the season. After missing most of the Miami game, K.O. blamed his back spasms on a bad mattress at his hotel.

However, he was a bit ominous earlier this week, saying that he wasn’t 100% and would need back surgery after the season. Just a few days later though, the case is that Osemele will have to have that surgery sooner rather than later, and will miss the rest of the 2013 season.

“He’s not going to play in this game and, going forward, his chances of him playing the rest of the year are probably pretty slim,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said on Friday. “There’s a good chance that he’s going to get surgery here real soon. I don’t want to say for sure, 100 percent, because I don’t know if I’m authorized to say that. But I would anticipate that right now. We’ll move forward on that with the guys that we have and we’ll be in good shape.”

Osemele had made every start (some at guard, some at tackle) since being drafted in the second round out of Iowa State in 2012. Now he will be replaced by A.Q. Shipley at left guard. Here’s hoping that Shipley is better than an injured K.O., who – due to his injury more than anything else – has not played up to the standard he set in his rookie year here in his sophomore campaign.

We also, of course, wish K.O. a full and speedy recovery.

That’s a lot to ask of a rookie center coming out of a small school (Colorado State-Pueblo) who has yet to even take a preseason snap against NFL competition.

True, but I thought he didn’t play center in college? Which is why it makes it a bit strange that he’s all of a sudden listed as center. Besides, 66 is from a small school and he’s horrible with line calling and handling his assignment… how much worse can Jensen be? I have a feeling there’s something in store.
