OWINGS MILLS — The Baltimore Ravens have hired Todd Washington, 34, as assistant offensive line coach.

He’ll work with offensive line coach Andy Moeller, who was promoted when the team fired John Matsko.

"We researched Todd’s career and know he’s a demanding coach who builds very good relationships with the players," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "Todd will work well with Andy and our players to make the offensive line the best it can possibly be."

Last year, Washington coached the offensive line for the Hartford Colonials in the United Football League.

Selected out of Virginia Tech by Tampa Bay, Washington played in the NFL for eight years at guard and center covering 96 career games.

He was University of San Diego assistant for three seasons, the last of which as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2009.
