Ravens part ways with four UDFAs

Four undrafted free agents’ dreams of making the Ravens ended on Tuesday, as the organization waived a few of the guys they brought in for rookie minicamps.

Among the cuts was tight end Murphy Holloway, who was trying to make a transition from the basketball court to the gridiron after advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in the March Madness tournament while playing at Ole Miss. Holloway will apparently try to resume his career playing basketball, as he tweeted the following when the decision:

“ @Murphys_Law31: Back to the hardwood couldn’t be a blocking TE…… Loved the experience in the NFL”

Holloway caps the list of five guys that won’t have a future with the Ravens, one that includes another notable name—Ray Holley.

Holley was looking to be able to compete in camp with Bobby Rainey and Damien Berry, but those dreams were cut short. The former Louisiana Tech running back is a small 5’8” and clearly couldn’t do enough to impress the coaches during his limited opportunity. He caught the ball well in college, and was actually a playmaker and he reminded me of Kyle Juszyzck, the team’s fourth-round draft pick from Harvard. With “Juice Check” being the only person that will make the team in his unique role, it was only a matter of time before Holley was gone.

Jose Cheeseborough, the man with the most interesting name in this UDFA class, will also not be making it to OTA’s. Cheeseborough was a long-shot as his play in college wasn’t superb, and the Ravens drafted Marc Anthony in the seventh round to add depth to the secondary.

Nathan Stanley was added as an extra arm, maybe just to throw in rookie camp. It was clear that he never had a shot to make the team, so this one shouldn’t come as any shock.

We’ll see what holds for the rest of this class, but the Ravens didn’t find the next Arian Foster with these four.

Could Murphy Holloway be added to the Practice Squad later, giving him a year to develop and not waste practice time this Summer?

  2. Jerry Moore #44 on said:

Ray Holley would have been a guy to keep in my opinion. But I’m sure Ozzie will fill his spot with a much needed veteran Reciever Maybe Brandon Loyd

  3. True on said:

Isn’t there an ebb and flow to UDFA’s and UFA’s throughout the Summer? We’ll find someone awesome. If we could find a couple of cornerbacks, linebackers, and receivers the competition would make the guys we already have better.
