Ravens to sign QB Caleb Hanie per report

Caleb-Hanie

In the wake of the disregard for human life displayed in Boston earlier this afternoon, let’s distract ourselves a little bit with talking about anything besides acts of terrorism.

Our topic of distraction will be about the Ravens beginning to make moves to fill out training camp roster spots and news comes that a quarterback is likely one of their first additions. A league source tells ESPN’s Chicago Bears writer Jeff Dickerson that Caleb Hanie is expected to sign with the Ravens.

Last year, Hanie was the third quarterback on the depth chart behind Peyton Manning and rookie Brock Osweiler in Denver. Prior to signing with the Broncos, Hanie spent three years with the Bears and has three career touchdown passes to his name.

The top quarterback on the Ravens depth chart was already answered in February with a $120 million contract and a 2014 Corvette for being named the Super Bowl MVP. Hanie, for all intents and purposes will be expected to fill the role occupied last year by former Colts quarterback Curtis Painter – as a training camp arm.

No, Hanie isn’t expected to take Tyrod Taylor’s spot and not much should be discussed further about him. On a historic day in America for all the wrong reasons, we’ll write about anything to provide a sense of distraction.
