Rice could be in for tough day against stout San Diego front

Ray Rice has had an up and down season this year. Before the season kicked off, many were expecting a big year out of Rice, but some inconsistent play calling and tough run defenses have made the job difficult for Ray. While Ray Rice is always poised to have a breakout game, it may be difficult to do so against the Chargers this afternoon.
The San Diego Chargers rank third in the league in rush defense, allowing only 88 yards per game. Not too shabby considering they’ve faced some excellent backs this season including Darren McFadden, Chris Johnson, Jamaal Charles (twice), Trent Richardson, and Doug Martin.
Defensive lineman Corey Liuget has been an immovable force in the middle, allowing LB Donald Butler to roam freely behind him. Butler is leading the team in tackles with 67 and has emerged as a leader on the defense.
Ravens’ fans should be familiar with former Raven Jarret Johnson. He is one of the best edge setters in the league and is arguably one of the main reasons for the Ravens ‘diminished run defense this year. Paired up with Shaun Phillips on the opposite end, it will be difficult for the Ravens to run outside against the Chargers.
In the secondary, the multi-faceted FS Eric Weddle is not only a great pass defender, but has also been known for his abilities in run support. Weddle is not afraid to come up and make tackles for a loss in the backfield and has a knack for being all over the field. QB Joe Flacco will need to keep his eyes on Eric Weddle at all times so he can check to plays that will nullify his effects.
Ray Rice is one of the best running backs in the NFL. However, he will have a lot on his plate against the Chargers as they will look to maintain their strong defensive prowess.
