SALARY CAP ANALYSIS: Breaking Down the Rookie Contracts

With the advent of the new rookie wage scale contained in the NFL’s 2011 CBA, much of the mystery of rookie contracts has been removed. With the new system largely being a slotted system, signings are happening much quicker and holdouts are few and far between.

Also, with the overall league Salary Cap having increased at such a minimal rate, players are receiving the same Signing Bonus as the player taken with the same pick in the prior year’s draft.

The following is a breakdown of the contracts of the Ravens’ 2013 draft class:

SIGNED

LB Arthur Brown

Second Round Pick, Arthur Brown signed a 4-year deal worth $2,554,232, with a Signing Bonus of $964,896.

 

LB John Simon

Fourth Round Pick, John Simon signed a 4-year deal worth $2,545,652, with a Signing Bonus of $385,652.

 

FB Kyle Juszczyk

Fourth Round Pick, Kyle Juszczyk signed a 4-year deal worth $2,460,584, with a Signing Bonus of $300,584.

 

OT Ricky Wagner

Fifth Round Pick, Ricky Wagner signed 4-year deal worth $2,304,560, with a Signing Bonus of $144,560.

 

DE Kapron Lewis-Moore

Sixth Round Pick, Kapron Lewis-Moore signed a 4-year deal worth $2,248,232, with a Signing Bonus of $88,232.

 

OL Ryan Jensen

Sixth Round Pick, Ryan Jensen signed a 4-year deal worth $2,238,680, with a Signing Bonus of $78,680.

 

WR Aaron Mellette

Seven Round Pick, Aaron Mellette signed a 4-year deal worth $2,205,896, with a Signing Bonus of $45,896.

 

CB Marc Anthony

Seventh Round Pick, Marc Anthony signed a 4-year deal worth $2,205,896, with a Signing Bonus of $45,896.

 

STILL UNSIGNED

S Matt Elam

First Round Pick, Matt Elam will sign a 4-year deal worth a total value of $6,767,002, with a Signing Bonus of $3,301,456.

Elam will receive a 2013 base salary of the rookie minimum of $405,000 and a 2013 Cap number of $1,203,364.

 

NT Brandon Williams

Third Round Pick, Brandon Williams will sign a 4-year deal worth a total value of $2,697,500, with a Signing Bonus of $515,000.

Williams will receive a 2013 base salary of the rookie minimum of $405,000 and a 2013 Cap number of $533,750.
