Sources: Monroe Unlikely to Return to Baltimore

The Baltimore Ravens traded for Eugene Monroe in October hoping that Monroe could be a long-term answer for them at left tackle.

But five months after the Ravens gave up two middle-round 2014 draft picks for Monroe, the 26-year old is likely to leave as a free agent, per sources.

Retaining Monroe was one of Baltimore’s biggest priorities entering the offseason, but negotiations between the Ravens and Monroe have reached a standstill, per sources.

According to a source, Monroe wants a long-term contract worth around $10 million annually. Baltimore wants Monroe for closer to $8 million or $9 million annually.

Monroe signing elsewhere would leave the Ravens with a big hole at left tackle.

Right tackle Michael Oher has experience at left tackle, but he is also set to become an unrestricted free agent. And while starting left guard Kelechi Osemele and 2013 fifth-round pick Ricky Wagner both played left tackle in college, neither are viewed by the team as ideal fits to play left tackle in the NFL.
