Suggs has torn biceps, status uncertain

He may seem like a super hero, but Terrell Suggs is only human.

After defying common medical knowledge and returning from a torn Achillies only five months removed from surgery, once again, Suggs could find himself watching his teammates from the sidelines.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter [1] confirmed what many had feared, that Suggs tore his biceps muscle on Sunday against Pittsburgh.

The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter as Suggs was shown walking off the field holding his right biceps with a concerned look on his face as he called for the Ravens team trainers before he left the field.

It is unknown how long the injury will keep Suggs out. As Schefter said in his tweet, some players can play through torn biceps – it depends on the specifics of the injury.

Since returning in Week 7 against the Houston Texans, Suggs has 19 tackles, two sacks and four passes defensed in six games.

The Ravens were 5-1 in Suggs’ absence, but with the additional injuries to Lardarius Webb, Ray Lewis, and Jimmy Smith, it’s hard to imagine the Ravens being able to sustain their winning ways with the absence of so many premier players on their defense.

With crucial games coming up against RG3, the Manning brothers, and Andy Dalton, the Ravens could be in trouble without Suggs on the field. They struggled to pressure Charlie Batch behind a patchwork Pittsburgh offensive line even WITH the 2011 Defensive Player of the Year on the field – Ravens fans shudder to think what the pass rush will look like without him.

At best, Suggs will be limited down the stretch as the Ravens try to secure their second straight AFC North title.
