Tucker Could Give Ravens an Edge on Monday Night

Tucker celebrates

If Monday night’s Ravens-Lions game comes down to placekicking, give the Ravens the edge.

The Ravens have complete confidence in Justin Tucker, who has made 27 consecutive attempts, the NFL’s longest streak. Tucker makes most 50-yard kicks look easy, and his range will increase kicking indoors Monday night at Ford Field in climate-controlled conditions.

The Lions’ placekicking situation is a different story. David Akers has made just three-of-five attempts over the past five weeks. On Thanksgiving, Akers missed a 31-yarder against the Packers just before halftime. Lions coach Jim Schwartz has insisted that his trust in Akers has not diminished. But we have seen big games decided by missed kicks before.

If the Lions need a critical field goal Monday night, they will hope that Akers delivers. However, the Ravens have not worried about Tucker since he took over as their placekicker last season.

He could be the best kicker in the NFL.

Tucker will definitely be the best kicker on the field Monday night.
