WEDNESDAY INJURY REPORT: Ravens vs. Patriots

Brady Flacco 600

Not even 48 hours removed from their thrilling last-minute win over the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football, the Ravens returned to the practice field today to begin preparations for the New England Patriots.

The Ravens have gotten the better of the Pats the last two times these squads have met, besting them at M&T Bank Stadium in Week 3 of 2012 (on, hey, look at that, ANOTHER Justin Tucker game-winning field goal), and of course again in the 2012 AFC Championship game in Foxborough.

One name that Ravens fans aren’t used to seeing on the injury report – who is there this week – is quarterback Joe Flacco. Flacco has never missed a start in his nearly six full seasons in the NFL, but had a scare Monday when Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy fell on his knee and caved it inwards. Coincidentally, the guy who had that happen to him to spur a change in the NFL rulebook, Tom Brady, will be the one coming to town to face Flacco this week. Of course, Flacco and the Ravens didn’t benefit from “The Brady Rule” as no flag was thrown on the play.

Ravens fans breathed a sigh of relief as Joe stayed in the game, but following that hit, many of his passes sailed high, as it was obvious that he was having trouble planting on his left leg.

The good news is that the team isn’t even worried enough about Flacco’s knee to put him through any further testing, choosing instead to rest him during the week and put a brace on his left knee for Sunday’s game. Joe’s current streak of 107 consecutive games started ranks as the third-longest current streak in the NFL behind Eli Manning (160) and Philip Rivers (133). It’s also the eighth-longest all-time.

Here are the injury reports for Wednesday’s practices in Baltimore and New England (as usual, the Pats just list half their roster as “limited.”)

Hopefully the fact that they’re not doing an MRI is a positive sign. Flacco did say his knee wasn’t hurting him as much as he thought it would initially after the hit. It’s a short week, hopefully Joe has enough time to rest and heal up.

Can someone please explain why the Ravens are NOT doing an MRI on Joe’s $120-million knee? What’s the downside? Why not be safe and certain?
