Which McKinnie will the Ravens get?

Rice McKinnie SB XLVII 600

I’ll admit that I’m very happy the Ravens resigned Bryant McKinnie. I didn’t want Kelechi Osemele to play left tackle, as I think he can be a Pro Bowl-caliber left guard, and I think we can all agree that Michael Oher can’t handle it.

They weren’t going to be able to trade up and get one of the elite left tackle prospects in the draft so they didn’t have a lot of other options.

Branden Albert would have been a great fit but the price was way too rich for Ravens blood.

Once the Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers got involved with McKinnie, the Ravens had to make their move, signing him to a two-year deal that could be worth up to seven million dollars.

Now the question: Is anyone else a little worried about which Bryant McKinnie the Ravens are going to get now that he has some security?

I know if he’s a good soldier he will make more money but that hasn’t stopped him from eating himself out of a job (in Minnesota) or showing a lack of intensity in practice throughout his career.

Maybe John Harbaugh kept McKinnie in the doghouse too long last season but there was a legitimate reason why he got there in the first place.

I am hoping for the best – that Bryant McKinnie has matured and will be a hard worker.

That the Ravens will see the effort we all saw during the Super Bowl run.

If the old Bryant McKinnie shows up though, I won’t be surprised.

Ravens fans as a whole, in comparison to other fanbases, seem to be unnecessarily harsh on anybody perceived as having non-talent issues (ie: legal troubles, motivation issues, etc.). On the other hand, Ravens fans tend to automatically assume that anything the front office does is magical. Lastly, many Ravens fans (myself included, perhaps) have already penciled Osemele into the HOF as the greatest left guard ever.

Combine all of these factors and it should be interesting to see the fan reaction.

Have to disagree with you on all three points. I think my arguments can be summarized into one word each, as follows:
      1. Ray
      2. Boller
      3. Ogden

I think there’s a mix of homer Ravens fans and Ravens fans who look for fault. Look at all the crap Flacco got before and after signing his contract.

Hey Ken, glad you are writing here.

It will still be the same old lazy McKinnie, but, fortunately, that will be enough to keep Flacco upright.

I share your concerns as well, but I am sure the Ravens have protected themselves with certain contract provisions and benchmarks that must be met and maintained. Otherwise, the same situation that presented itself last year will be repeated.
