OWINGS MILLS — The Baltimore Ravens faxed a contract offer late Monday afternoon to undrafted free agent Grand Valley State quarterback Cullen Finnerty days after he participated in their rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, according to his agent.

Finnerty’s agent said he planned to fax back a signed copy to the Ravens’ personnel department on Monday.

Finnerty is a record-setting Division II star who won three national titles as a four-year starter, passing for 9,488 career yards and 92 touchdowns. Finnerty indicated that he had spoken to Baltimore prior to the draft and chose the Ravens amid interest from the Buffalo Bills.

"He had a good weekend at practice, and it seems like a better competitive opportunity with the Ravens than with Buffalo, which drafted Trent Edwards," said Justin VanFulpen, Finnerty’s agent. "It’s a good situation for Cullen with Baltimore, and that’s why he chose to play there."

The 6-foot-2, 224-pounder worked out with former NFL quarterback Steve DeBerg in Florida prior to his campus workout at Grand Valley, running the 40-yard dash in 4.62 seconds and bench pressing 225 pounds 25 times.

Finnerty went 51-4 in four seasons at Grand Valley.

NOTES: There were no other deals reported for the handful of tryout players Baltimore worked out, including Hampton cornerback Calvin Bannister. … The Ravens were allotted $3.374 million by the league for their rookie pool, which encompasses the maximum salary-cap room allowed to sign their seven draft picks and undrafted free agents.
