The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to terms on a four-year contract with Pro Bowl special teamer Brendon Ayanbadejo, general manager Ozzie Newsome announced today.

"There are various ways to improve a team and getting one of the best special teams players in the league is one way,” Newsome said. “Brendon plays like a Raven. He has the toughness, intellect and leadership we look for in our players, and we had to throw Coach Harbaugh – a former special teams coach – a little bone with our first free agent."

The sixth-year veteran has been named to the Pro Bowl twice (2006 and 2007) while with the Chicago Bears. Entering 2008, Ayanbadejo has recorded 124 special teams tackles (average of 24.8 per year), 4 FFs and 2 FRs in 80 career games played. He has led or shared the team lead in special teams tackles each season in which he has played. He recorded 26 special teams tackles in 2007, and 28 each in ‘06 and ’05, all with the Bears. While with Miami, he tallied 23 in 2004 and 19 in 2003. He also recorded 43 career tackles with 1 INT and 1 PD from scrimmage as a reserve LB and has 10 special teams tackles in 4 career postseason contests.

"Brendon elevates our special teams, but he will also help us as a linebacker,” said head coach John Harbaugh. “His style of play and demeanor is great for the Ravens. Teams will have to scheme to try and handle Brendon."

Please Note: Ayanbadejo will be in Baltimore on Monday to sign his contract. The Ravens will make him available to the media that afternoon.
