Ravens eyeing Perry

OWINGS MILLS — The Baltimore Ravens aren’t alone in their interest in former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver and kick returner Tab Perry.

Perry, 26, visited the Miami Dolphins this week, and the Green Bay Packers have made inquiries, too.

Perry has remained in contact with the Bengals even after they opted to not pay him the low restricted tender of $927,000 prior to the start of the free agent signing period. The Bengals are interested in Perry, but at a lower salary.

At 6-foot-3, 208 pounds, the former UCLA standout has battled injuries with a hip problem limiting him to four games over the past two seasons. He underwent surgery Oct. 17 and was placed on injured reserve.

As a rookie in 2005, Perry averaged 22.4 yards on 64 kickoff returns, including a 94-yard return against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He ranked fourth on the team with 16 special-teams tackles.

Now that Perry is recovered from his injuries, he could potentially operate as a return specialist to work in tandem with Baltimore incumbent Yamon Figurs and as a potential replacement for free agent Devard Darling, the Ravens’ No. 4 wide receiver last season.

NOTE: Ravens unrestricted free agent running back Musa Smith is planning to visit the New York Jets as soon as this weekend. Smith was the Ravens’ second-leading rusher behind Pro Bowl runner Willis McGahee, gaining 264 yards and scoring two touchdowns last season.

The Denver Broncos have also been in discussions with Smith’s agent, Jack Reale, regarding a one-year deal.
