NFL News & Notes: Baltimore winless in Texas Stadium

Reading Time: 3 minutes
Falcons, with the Rams at home almost a certain win their last game,  this week’s game in Minnesota should decide if they are playoff bound, the Falcons are just 4-9 in Minnesota but did win the biggest game in franchise history there, winning the 1998 NFC  championship game on Morten Andersen’s overtime field goal….Ravens, the Ravens have never played in Dallas, but Baltimore teams have won just one game there, the Cowboys first year in 1960 , with a 45-7 Colts win, that was at the Cotton Bowl, in 2 visits to Texas Stadium in 1976 and 1978, the Colts were 0-2…..Bills, they have lost 7 of their last eight games, it will take wins over both the Broncos and Patriots their last 2 games for Dick Jauron to come back in 2009 as head coach….Panthers, with a win over the Giants this Sunday, they will be the top seed in the NFC for the playoffs even if they lose their last game on the road to the Saints, NFC South teams are 26-2 at home this year….

Cowboys, Linebacker DeMarcus Ware has at least on sack in thirteen of 14 games this year, he could be voted NFL Defensive Player of the Year, the Ravens will have to know where he is on every play this Saturday….Lions, Dan Orlovsky will start the last 2 games at quarterback for the Lions, while winless they are playing hard, they had the Colts tied in the 4th quarter Sunday, they play the Saints at home this week, in 1980 the Saints came into week fifteen 0-14, they beat the Jets, 21-20, winning their only game of the year… Houston, at 7-7, they  will have to win their last 2 games against the Raiders and Bears to have their first winning season in franchise history ….Chiefs, with the resignation of team President Carl Peterson at the end of the season, head coach Herm Edwards who seemed certain to come back for next year will have to wait until a new President is named before he will know his status…. Dolphins, they are 6-4 in the conference and at the Chiefs this week, if they win that and week 16 at the Jets they win the AFC East, they could tie the Patriots at 11-5, and would have the same division record as them  but win the tie breaker by 5 points, they beat the Patriots 38-13 and lost to them 48-28….

Giants, this is surprising, just a couple of weeks ago the Giants seemed like the top seed in the NFC, but if they lose this week to the Panthers and the last week in Minnesota, both them and the Vikings would  be 11-5, if the Vikings beat the Falcons this week, that would mean the Giants would not have a bye the first week of the NFC playoffs….Jets, they win the AFC East with victories their last 2 games, even if they tie with the Patriots at 11-5, they would have the better divisional record, 5-1 v. 4-2 for the Patriots….Steelers they are the top seed in the AFC playoffs with a victory against the Titans this week, their last game in Pittsburgh against the Browns seems like a formality….Titans, with a victory over the Steelers they win the top seed, but a loss and a loss the next week at the Colts would put them into a tie with the Colts for the AFC South, if the Colts beat the Jaguars Thursday, then that would make both of them 12-4 and 4-2 in the division, the Titans beat the Colts 31-21 week 8, this could come to point differential to see who gets the bye and who travels to Denver for the first playoff game.
