OWINGS MILLS — Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson appears to be closing in on the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive coordinator job, interviewing for the second time in the past five days with 49ers coach Mike Singletary.

Jackson is believed to have emerged as a potential frontrunner to become the 49ers’ replacement for Mike Martz, who was fired by Singletary late last month.

The only other candidate to interview twice for the position, Scott Linehan, was offered the job after his second interview. However, he turned down the offer and became the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator.

The 49ers have scheduled former New York Jets running backs coach Jimmy Raye II for an interview today for the offensive coordinator position, making him the eighth candidate to meet with team officials.

Jackson, who coached successful Ravens rookie quarterback Joe Flacco this past season, has prior offensive coordinator experience with the Atlanta Falcons and Washington Redskins. He has worked in the Bay Area before at Cal and played quarterback at the University of the Pacific in nearby Stockton, Calif.

Meanwhile, the 49ers interviewed former Ravens receivers coach and Falcons quarterbacks coach Mike Johnson on Tuesday for the quarterbacks coach vacancy. Johnson worked with 49ers offensive line coach Chris Foerster for two years in Baltimore.

Because both Jackson and Johnson were in town on the same day, it’s plausible that the 49ers are looking for Jackson to make a recommendation on Johnson in a potential pairing on the offensive staff.

NOTE: Flacco is expected to be named Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year on Thursday at the Super Bowl after not garnering a single vote for the Associated Press’ NFL Rookie of the Year award.
