Ravens to work out Britt

OWINGS MILLS — As the Baltimore Ravens continue their search for a deep threat to work in tandem with quarterback Joe Flacco, they have scheduled a private workout next week with Rutgers wide receiver Kenny Britt.

Britt is regarded as a late first-round or early second-round draft pick, possibly cementing that status when he ran a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash at his campus Pro Day workout in front of 27 NFL teams after running in the 4.5 range at the NFL scouting combine.

At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds after dropping eight pounds from his combine weight, Britt has ideal size for the position. He caught 87 passes for 1,371 yards and seven touchdowns last season, missing one game in September due to a suspension for violating a team rule.

In 2007, Britt caught 62 passes for 1,232 yards and eight touchdowns. He’s the Big East Conference’s all-time receiving yardage leader.

NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock has projected Britt to go somewhere between the No. 25 overall pick and 40th overall. The Ravens hold the 26th overall selection.

At the scouting combine, Britt registered a 37 1/2 inch vertical leap and a 10-4 broad jump.

Meanwhile, the Ravens are also hosting West Virginia quarterback Pat White at their training complex for a visit this week after he arrived in Baltimore on Thursday night.

White is an interesting prospect because some NFL teams project the Big East Offensive Player of the Year to play wide receiver because he’s undersized at 6-foot, 197 pounds and has 4.5 speed.

He didn’t perform wide receiver drills at his Pro Day, but has been working out at wide receiver for teams in private workouts. That includes the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots.

White completed 65.7 percent of his throws last season for 1,842 yards, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions. For his career, he has completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 6,049 yards, 56 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

At the combine, the former Anaheim Angels fourth-round draft pick ran a 4.55 in the 40-yard dash and posted a 35-inch vertical leap.

On Monday, the Ravens conducted a private workout for speedy University of Maryland receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey with Flacco throwing him passes in College Park. With 4.30 speed, Bey is considered the fastest player in the draft.

University of Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin, a versatile athlete with 4.41 speed, has also been scheduled for a private workout with the Ravens as well as the New York Jets, New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings and the Miami Dolphins.

NOTE: The Ravens are in the process of setting up a visit for University of Arizona offensive tackle Eben Britton, a potential late first-round draft pick.

Aaron Wilson covers the Baltimore Ravens for the Carroll County Times and the Annapolis Capital.
