Pro: Davon Drew was selected in the 5th round (149th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft…“We think he has a tremendous upside,” Ravens general manager/executive vice president Ozzie Newsome explained of Drew. “I understand how Cam [Cameron] can utilize a tight end, and I think Drew has the type of skills that can be utilized by Cam and the offensive coaches.”


 

College: Earned consecutive All-Conference USA honors his junior and senior years…Played in 40 games with 32 starts (the last 18 consecutive), exploding on the scene his senior year and established himself as one of top TE performers in the country when he more than doubled his receiving numbers from the previous 2 seasons…Set a single-season school record in 2008 for receiving yards by a TE (695)…Notched a career-high in receiving yards with 120 vs. Kentucky (1/02/09)…Hauled in a career-high 7 receptions vs. UAB (11/22/08)…His senior year, led all receivers with 695 receiving yards and a 16.2 yards-per-catch average for the season, finishing 2nd on the team in total receptions (43)…Began his career with the Pirates a backup QB, but switched to TE as a sophomore…Majored in management of recreation facilities and services.

 

2008: Named to All-Conference USA squad by league head coaches and Phil Steele Magazine…Notched a career-best 120-yard receiving performance against Kentucky in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, at which he also recorded his 32nd-career start…Started all 14 games on the season, recording a career-high 7 receptions at UAB when he helped East Carolina clinch Conference USA’s East Division title…Led all receivers with 695 receiving yards and a 16.2 yards-per-catch average for the season, finishing 2nd on the team in total receptions (43)… Of his 43 receptions, 26 went for 10 or more yards, and 11 for 20 or more…Had 50 or more receiving yards in 7 games…Ended his season recording at least 1 reception in the last 8 games.

 

2007: An honorable mention All-Conference USA selection by league coaches…Started 12 of 13 games at TE…Recorded 19 receptions for 196 yards (10.3 avg.) with 2 TDs…Hauled in at least 1 pass in 9 games, catching a season-high 4 passes 2 times…Caught TD balls against North Carolina (15 yards) and UCF (20 yards).


 

2006: Made the move from QB to TE during spring drills…Started 6 of 13 games, catching 16 passes for 187 yards (11.7 avg.) and 3 TDs…Earned 3rd-team All-Conference USA honors as selected by league head coaches…Caught his 1st-career pass for 21 yards against Navy (9/2)…His 1st-career TD came against UAB (9/9), during which he brought in a season-high 6 passes for 51 yards.

 

2005: Was on the travel roster as a reserve QB, but did not see any game action.


 

2004: Redshirted as a freshman…Was the scout team QB and received the Rick Bankston Memorial Award, which goes to the scout team’s offensive player-of-the-year.


 

High School, Personal: Prepped at New Bern (NC) HS…As QB, led the Bears to back-to-back state championship appearances in 2002 and 2003…Went 30-3 as a starting QB, earning All Conference honors his junior and senior seasons…As a junior, he was named conference Co-Player of the Year…As a senior, earned All-State accolades after completing 99 of 203 passes for 1,709 yards and 20 TDs with only 9 INTs that season… Also rushed for 492 yards and 8 scores on 107 carries…All-America pick by PrepStar Magazine, ESPN.com’s Tom Lemming also ranked him among the top 25 QBs in the nation…Named the 24th-best prospect in North Carolina by PrepStar Magazine…Earned 9 varsity letters (4 in basketball, 3 in football and 2 in track)…Has a twin brother…Full name: Davon Anthony Drew.
