Joe Flacco and Cam Cameron enter their fourth year together as the respective leaders of the Ravens offense on and off the field. In college terms they are now seniors and will be expected to perform at a higher level compared to the previous three seasons.
Although in 2010 Flacco’s numbers continued to improve, the offense as a whole did not. Key offensive categories that saw a decrease last year include points per game, rush yards per game, 3rd down percentage and red zone percentage.
The performance in the season opener against the Steelers was impressive and Joe Flacco registered his highest QB rating in a week one game with 117.6. No turnovers and a 50% conversion rate in the red zone were also key factors in the decisive win. The last time the Ravens beat the Steelers to open a season was in 2000, and we all know how that season ended.
There is little doubt Cameron and his offense are on the hot seat this year. It’s clear the offense has to improve and aside from injuries to key players it should. BTN will track the progress here on a weekly basis. Keep in mind for some categories a decrease is positive, as in the case of Fumbles lost, and an increase is negative, as in the case of Penalties.
