Panthers, Cam Newton has played just two games but has become a viable starting Fantasy QB. His two 400 yard passing games to start this season has to be most improbable fantasy start any fantasy owner has ever seen, Steve Smith is his go to receiver but  WR Bandon LaFell, has 8-119-1 after two weeks, he is getting single coverage and has fantasy value.

Bills, Harvard’s Ryan Fitzpatrick has attempted seventy two passes and has 7 TD throws and has been sacked just once, Buffalo had just one TD toss and they had allowed 7 sacks after two games in 2010, Fred Jackson is keeping CJ Spiller on the bench for now, Spiller will get more touches as we move deeper into the year, WR Steve Johnson will play this week against the 31st ranked pass defense of the Patriots, TE Shawn Nelson is Fitzpatrick’s go to receiver.

Bengals, Andy Dalton broke the franchise rookie record for passing yards in a game by throwing for 332 yards against the Broncos, Greg Cook held the record with a 327 yard day in 1969, Dalton has become viable, considering his next games are against the 49’ers, Bills, Jaguars, Colts, and Seahawks.

Broncos, Head coach John Fox will play the hot hand as he says, that means Willis McGahee will be the feature back for now in Denver, tough match up though this week, they play the Titans, who are allowing just over three yards a carry. With Brandon Lloyd and Eddie Royal hurting Eric Decker is a must start, he went 5-113 with two scores last Sunday, last year Lloyd came out of nowhere for a huge fantasy season, 2011 is Decker’s turn at it.

Cowboys, Tony Romo should play this week, he played through injury and pain last week but try and find another QB this week, Romo deserves high praise for his performance in San Francisco, but the injury and an above average Redskin pass defense should keep him on your bench, RB Felix Jones should play this week.

Lions, Matt Stafford has not been sacked this year, and is the first Lions quarterback to start a season with back to back games with a  passer rating of over 100 since Gary Danielson in 1984, the karma seems to be there, Stafford attended Highland Park HS in Dallas, the same high school that former Detroit QB and Hall of Famer Bobby Layne attended, he started eight games the Lions last championship season in 1957 before being sent to the lowly Steelers, vowing after the trade that  the Lions would never win another championship, WR Nate Burleson has 12-153, he has not scored yet, but is on pace for a 1,000 yard season.

Houston, Arian Foster’s hamstring is going to be problematic for at least a month, he will be questionable every week as he  heals completely, Ben Tate will get the majority of the carries, with Derrick Ward  hurting, we could even see Gary Kubiak’s former favorite Steve Slaton get some workload, WR Kevin Walter could come back this week, they will need him against the Saints, as Jacoby Jones is an average at best second WR for Matt Schaub.

Colts, Former Colt QB Jeff George tweeted that he could pick up the Colts offense in a couple of days, and get them on track, George who lives in Indianapolis was the first overall pick in the 1990 draft by the Colts…word to Jeff George, you could not grasp the offense in the four years you were a Colt, hence the send off to the ATL after the 1993 season.

Jaguars, Rookie QB Blaine Gabbert will get the start against the Panthers Sunday, TE Marcedes Lewis who is coming off a 10 TD season in 2010, might play this week, he is nursing a calf injury, along with Houston’s Foster he is an early 2011 draft bust.

Chiefs, If you take a detailed view of the Chief’s loss Sunday to the Lions, you would see that two of Matt Cassel’s interceptions were in the hands of receivers Dwayne Bowe and Jerheme Urban and they mishandled the ball, with Jamaal Charles gone for the year, a committee of Thomas Jones, Dexter McCluster, and Le’Ron McClain will try and fill the huge void.

Patriots, TE Aaron Hernandez will miss a month with a sprained knee, translating into more touches for Rob Gronkowski, WR Deion Branch is having a quiet, solid start to 2011, with 8 receptions for 129 yards last week, he has renewed fantasy value.

Raiders, WR Danarius Moore stepped up with 5-146, and a big TD Sunday in Buffalo, with Jacoby Ford and Darrius Heyward-Bey slowed by injury, Moore played himself into a starting role, head coach Hue Jackson said Moore will get more targets this week against the Jets.

Eagles, With Michael Vick having to pass the NFL concussion policy to get back on the field, I see Mike Kafka starting at quarterback against the Giants, Vince Young still has the hamstring problem, and Kafka played well, completing 7 of 9 throws, both that hit the Georgia Dome carpet were drops by his wide receivers, he should only be started in leagues where you start two QB’s each week, this also would mean more touches for LeSean McCoy as check down receiver.

About Kurt Backert

Kurt's passion for the game began in the 60's watching the Colts on TV and at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. He began following the statistics of not only his beloved Colts but also those of the Colts opponents, with a keen eye on Vince Lombardi's Packers. His thirst for and attention to statistical detail would eventually lead Kurt on a journey to the world of fantasy football in the late 1980's where he's captured more titles than John Wooden's UCLA Bruins   Kurt carries a distinction that no other fan of the NFL can boast about.  He is the reigning NFL National Trivia Champion and he credits his Dad for passing on such passion for the game, something Kurt also hopes to pass along to his 9-year-old son.
