Fantasy News and Notes ~ Week 5

Share
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Ravens, Browns, Cowboys, Dolphins, Rams, and Redskins are on the bye Week 5

Panthers, TE Jeremy Shockey will probably miss this week’s game with concussion symptoms… meaning more targets for Greg Olsen, he has scored in each of the last two games and has twelve receptions for 107 yards in that span….this week’s match up against the Saints favors him and WR Steve Smith, the Saints have allowed 8 scoring passes

Browns, Head coach Pat Shurmur said Peyton Hillis will carry the ball more; he had just ten carries against the Titans

Broncos, Kyle Orton will remain the starting quarterback…he has a tough match up against the Chargers this week, who allow just 196 yards a game in the air… this statistic is made better by the fact  that they faced Tom Brady…

Packers, TE Jermichael Finley had just three receptions for 28 yards against the Broncos Sunday, Finley said he was doubled covered on 80% of his routes… this opened things up for Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Jordy Nelson, and James Jones…the Falcons will try and stop the WR’s, Finley should have a big night in Atlanta

Houston, WR Andre Johnson will miss three games with his hamstring injury…keep in mind,  when he was hurt in 2007, they said he would miss three to 5 weeks and he missed 7 games…Jacoby Jones will get the start on the other side of Kevin Walter

Colts, While not a fantasy starter, QB Curtis Painter played better than expected…his 87 yard scoring throw to Pierre Garcon was his first pro scoring pass…this was the longest first career TD pass since Charlie Batch then with the Lions hit Johnnie Morton for a 98 yard scoring toss in 1998 in a 31-27 loss  to the Bears

Dolphins, QB Chad Henne could miss anywhere form a week to the entire season, no word yet… talk about desperate, they are trying to sign veterans David Garrard and Jake Delhomme, Matt Moore will start for now, but you never know Don Strock might be available

Patriots, RB Danny Woodhead has just an ankle sprain and not a break as first thought, Stevan Ridley is getting more touches every week, he is running better than BenJarvus Green-Ellis as of now

Saints, TE Jimmy Graham has scored the last two weeks and has caught 14 passes for 232 yards those games…he has more 20 yard or more receptions than any TE in the league…he is the first true athletic TE Drew Brees has had to throw to since he came to the Saints, Brees played for the Chargers from 2001-2005 and he developed Antonio Gates, a converted basketball player as Graham is into an All Pro TE… Brees threw 25 of his 80 TD passes while in San Diego to Gates…Graham is in the right place at the right time and could be one of the best value picks in this year’s fantasy draft considering where he was drafted

Giants, WR Mario Manningham was demoted last week during the game against the Cardinals because he ran the wrong routes on a couple of plays….Victor Cruz replaced him… Tom Coughlan has not named the starter for the Seahawks but my bet is Manningham is back for now…with Eli Manning playing great all Giant receivers have fantasy value in this week’s game

Raiders, WR Denarius Moore has scored in three consecutive games

Eagles, Jeremy Maclin is getting more targets than DeSean Jackson, but the match up with the Bills this week favors Jackson….the Bills secondary weakness is covering the long pass

Steelers, QB Ben Roethlisberger will play Sunday, but this is not great match up against the Titans…with RB Rashard Mendenhall hurting, Isaac Redman will get more touches

Chargers, WR Vincent Jackson should play this week despite a muscle strain but has a tough match up against Bronco DB Champ Bailey

Seahawks, Have to mention this because it will not happen again, Tarvaris Jackson passed for more than 300 yards Sunday…. he is playing better giving some fantasy value to WR Sidney Rice

Redskins, The Redskins have a bye this week but we should see Ryan Torain as the starter at running back October 16 against the Eagles
