FANTASY BLITZ: Week 8 News, Notes & Positional Rankings

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Saints set a team record for most points scored in a game, by compiling 62 against the hapless Colts Sunday Night, with injured Colt quarterback Peyton Manning watching from the sideline…….there is a common thread here, the most points the Saints  have ever allowed in a game is also 62, in a loss 62-7 loss to the Falcons opening day 1973 at Tulane Stadium, Archie Manning, Peyton’s Father was the Saints starting quarterback on that forgettable day; Archie completed 5 passes on thirteen attempts, and threw five interceptions…..on another note, NBC, ESPN, and the NFL Network need to check their facts, they reported Sunday night that the 62 points allowed by the Colts was a franchise record, eclipsing the record of fifty eight points the Colts allowed in a 1956 loss to the Bears, which happened to be the game in which John Unitas completed his first pro pass….but the Colts were actually worse on October 22, 1950, when they allowed 70 points, in a 70-27 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at the LA Coliseum.

Falcons, Bears, Packers, Jets, Raiders, and Buccaneers are on the bye this week

Cardinals, RB Chris Wells is not practicing this week….Alfonso Smith will start for him

Ravens,  it is hard to think of starting Joe Flacco after watching the Raven offense Monday, but the Cardinals have allowed the fifth most fantasy points to quarterbacks….they have allowed a multiple touchdown pass game in 4 of their six games in 2011

BillsFred Jackson has this statistic line his last three games, 59 carries,298 yards rushing , and three touchdowns, he faces the Redskins who allow 117 yards a game on the ground, 4.6 yards a carry, and have allowed six rushing touchdowns this year.

Bengals, Bernard Scott will get the start at running back against the Seahawks for the suspended Cedric Benson, they are allowing 104 yards a game on the ground, but allow just 3.1 yards a carry

Browns, Head coach Pat Shurmur said Colt McCoy will stay as the starting quarterback

Cowboys, RB DeMarco Murray who broke Emmitt Smith’s single game rushing record last week will not see 25 touches this week against the Eagles; it will be more of a running back by committee against the soft Eagle run defense

Lions, Shaun Hill has practiced with the first team a good portion of the week, but despite his "questionable" status Matthew Stafford has practiced like he’ll get the nod in Denver, according to the Detroit Free Press. This is a great match up for Stafford, the Broncos have allowed the most fantasy points to quarterbacks in 2011.

Houston, WR Andre Johnson was limited in practice, but said afterward that he probably will not play this week against the Jaguars; this will be his 4th missed game.

Vikings, WR Percy Harvin will play this week against the Panthers, they released high price free agent Bernard Berrian

Rams, AJ Feeley will start again at quarterback for the injured Sam Bradford against the saints, there could be some value there in two quarterback leagues; the Saints have allowed twelve scoring throws and have just 4 interceptions

Seahawks, Charlie Whitehurst will get the start again this week at quarterback for the injured Tavaris Jackson, if you watched Whitehurst play last week against the Browns, you would have to think Whitehurst’s Father David, age 56, the former Packer quarterback from 1977 to 1983 would give them better play this week.
