Lombardi's Way 60 Minutes to Baltimore?

I wasn’t blessed with a high tolerance for redundancy and consequently I can’t take much of 105.7 The Fan. It’s not really the fault of the programmers or even the on air talent. The fact of the matter is that there’s just not a lot to talk about in this part of the country other than the Ravens. So the end result is 24 hours/day of programming that regurgitates the same information by the same people.

Boring!

Thankfully there’s Sirius/XM Radio and my favorite channel is 88, NFL Radiooooooo.

This week Pat Kirwan who managed the New York Jets cap from 1989-97 and now co-hosts Movin’ The Chains on Sirius/XM with Tim Ryan discussed the apparently dire salary cap situation of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team may have to part ways with some long-time favorite stalwarts such as Hines Ward, Casey Hampton, James Farrior and others.

One player that the Steelers absolutely want to retain is speedy WR Mike Wallace. But here’s the rub – Wallace is a restricted free agent and the highest RFA designation that the Steelers can use on Wallace is a first round tender. What that means is that the Steelers can theoretically match any offer made to Wallace by another club and if they choose not to, the Steelers receive a first round pick in exchange.

Kirwan suggested that the Ravens make an attractive offer for Wallace for a few reasons:

1. It would improve the Ravens offense at a position Ozzie Newsome has already acknowledged they plan to bolster;

2. It would weaken the Ravens’ bitter divisional archrival; and

3. Even if the Steelers persist and cave to Wallace’s demands, inflated by the Ravens’ interest and perhaps that of others, they would have to dismantle their roster.

Excellent idea Mr. Kirwan!

Can someone get this over to Ozzie pronto?

Seriously, could they possibly do any better than Wallace with the No. 29 pick?
