The 2012 free agent frenzy is set to begin at 4:00 this afternoon when the 2012 league year begins. At that time, the Ravens are expected to be just under $7.7M under the 2012 Salary Cap.
This number will include the 40 players presently under contract, the franchise tender for RB Ray Rice, the 3 RFA tenders (Webb, C. Williams, D. Ellerbe) and the 7 ERFA tenders (Cox, Gorrer, C. Williams, McClellan, Kindle, Boren, Bynes).
As reported last evening, the Ravens tendered 3 of their RFAs – CB Lardarius Webb (1st round tender of $2.742M), CB Cary Williams (2nd round tender of $1.927M) and LB Dannell Ellerbe (also 2nd round tender). The team apparently non-tendered RB Matt Lawrence, making him a free agent.
The $7.7M under number also includes the $5.83M in excess 2011 Cap space that the team was able to carry over, the $1.5M the team is expected to borrow from future Caps and the $1.6M that the league has awarded 28 teams in the wake of the Redskins/Cowboys salary cap “violations”.
There is one remaining variable in the team’s Salary Cap picture – the incentive credit carryover from 2011. To date, this number has yet to be reported.

In your Salary Cap spreadsheet, Bryant McKinney had a $3.5M base salary and a $.5M roster bonus, but the total cap value was $4.2M. Is there other cost included in the $4.2M? Also, since Matt Birk signed am I correct that the Ravens have just under $5M remaining under the cap. Do you think any contracts will be reworked to give us more room?
Thank you!
