History of Ravens Compensatory Picks

Share
Reading Time: < 1 minute

It’s no secret that the Baltimore Ravens are among the NFL’s best on draft day. But eventually those draft picks become veterans and those veterans become free agents. Unfortunately the Ravens can’t keep them all given the salary cap and therefore some players leave for greener pastures.

Fortunately for the Ravens the league helps to feed their draft acumen a bit by compensating their free agent losses with draft picks. Since the team’s inception in 1996 the Ravens have received more comp picks (33) than any other NFL team – another indication of the draft prowess of Ozzie Newsome & Co.

In 2012 the Ravens pick up two more compensatory picks, one in the fourth-round (130th overall) and another in the fifth-round (169th overall). Players that factored into the equation for these picks were:

·         Lost: Chris Chester, Dawan Landry, Le’Ron McClain, Donte’ Stallworth, Josh Wilson

·         Signed: Vonta Leach, Bernard Pollard, Ricky Williams

Here’s a list of the players selected with those comp picks between 1996 -2011 (source: BaltimoreRavens.com):
