In an effort to defy common medical knowledge, Terrell Suggs’ recovery from a partially torn Achilles tendon is off to a faster start than expected.
Suggs posted on his Facebook page that his doctor took him off of crutches yesterday. Without the use of crutches, Suggs should start rehabbing soon in an effort to keep his promise of returning to the field no later than the end of November.
Ever since injuring himself on April 29, Suggs’ partially torn Achilles has been a hot topic both locally and nationally. Most recently, ESPN’s Adam Schefter defended his initial report that Suggs injured himself before the championship game at a basketball tournament at the Akchin Gymnasium in Maricopa, Arizona, despite Suggs’ proclamations that he did not suffer the injury playing hoops.
Regardless of how Suggs’ injury happened, the Ravens don’t care. Last week, Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said, “I would be more upset if he hurt himself sleeping on the couch all offseason,” he said. “It gets pretty boring in the weight room. He wasn’t kite boarding. If he’s playing basketball, that’s great.”
Now that Suggs knows he won’t be losing any of his $4.9 million salary in 2012, he will be more motivated to work as hard as possible to get onto the field this season.
It may not be ideal for Ravens fans to have to cheer Suggs through rehab but that is the hand the team has been dealt. Ball So Hard University may be taking an extended summer vacation but from the signals Suggs is putting out at the moment, class will be back in session sooner rather than later.
