Today’s practice will be the last time the team is together before training camp begins on July 26th. Here are some important storylines to look for as mandatory mini-camp wraps up:
Joe Flacco’s Fatherhood Update: In mini-camp things aren’t too serious and our lead story is one on a lighter note. Flacco left Owings Mills in a hurry yesterday morning to be with his wife, Dana, as she went into labor with the couple’s first child.
The Flaccos were unaware of the sex of the child and at the conclusion of practice yesterday, coach John Harbaugh didn’t have any updates.
Terrell Suggs Takes The Podium: After injuring his Achilles tendon which will cause him to miss at least the first half of the season, Terrell Suggs is expected to take the podium after the team practices today to address and the Baltimore media as a whole.
It’ll be interesting to see how Suggs plays off Adam Schefter’s report that he was injured while playing basketball even though Suggs has refuted it. This is definitely a conference that will be played all over Baltimore.
Jacoby Jones’s Injury: Yesterday, Jacoby Jones landed awkwardly after fighting for a ball in the air with Lardarius Webb. Jones immediately went to the sideline and met with the training staff, which appeared to be working on his right calf.
Deonte Thompson: A lot of talk has been made about Nigel Carr on the defensive side of the ball but undrafted free agent wide receiver Deonte Thompson out of Florida has made quite an impression throughout camp.
Not being in pads has helped the 6-0” 200lb wideout show off his speed but pads or not, he has great hands.
Bobbie Williams Progression: With Jah Reid primarily playing right tackle as Michael Oher fills in for Bryant McKinney as the team holds him out of camp for conditioning, 13-year veteran Bobbie Williams is basically in plug and play mode on the offensive line.
Williams is no stranger to the AFC North as he has been a member of the Cincinnati Bengals since 2004. That said this road grader will need to adapt to the zone blocking schemes employed by offensive line coach Andy Moeller. So far so good for Williams as he has been running with the projected first team offensive line.
Practice will start at 12:30 today and conclude at 2:30 with podium time following shortly afterwards.
