Camp Notes CAMP NOTES: Offense Struggles to Hold On

Practice was shorter for the Ravens but the time they did spend on the field was some of the most active action we’ve seen during training camp.

The biggest news for the day was that Pernell McPhee returned to practice after having some minor surgery on his knee. McPhee along with Art Jones are expected to share time at defensive end and help fill the spot vacated by Cory Redding this past offseason along with newcomer Ryan McBean.

Kicking:

Justin Tucker once again had a great practice and went 6 for 6 on his attempts. He connected from 35, 41, 47, 55, 29 and 44 yards.

Billy Cundiff didn’t necessarily struggle but did miss another kick today. The concerning part was that Cundiff’s miss was only from 41-yards away which he put wide of the right goal post.

Wide Receivers:

The defense dominated practice as multiple passes were picked off. The interceptions can be pinned more on the wide receivers than the quarterbacks. Multiple times today, balls went straight through receivers’ hands and into the grasp of the secondary.

Once again, LaQuan Williams had a solid practice and was targeted multiple times by all Ravens quarterbacks.

Torrey Smith has been affected by the heat at practice and cramping quite a bit, luckily for Smith, it’s because he has low body fat and it’s a side effect of being in extremely good shape. More fluids are probably in order for No. 82.

Quarterbacks:

Joe Flacco has really improved his passing over the middle and multiple times today he targeted tight ends and wide receivers between the hash marks.

Interceptions:

Ed Reed picked off Flacco on a pass attempt near 30-yards.

Brendon Ayanbadejo tipped a Flacco pass, which deflected, to Ray Lewis. Immediately after catching the deflection, Lewis lateraled the pass to Reed brining memories back of defenses in Ravens past.

Rookie safety, Christian Thompson, intercepted a pass, which went through the hands of running back Damien Berry. Lardarius Webb also intercepted a pass which went through the hands of Torrey Smith.

The Ravens will be back at practice tomorrow at 2:30.
