KIDZ KORNER: Taylor or Painter or both?

Share
Reading Time: 2 minutes

After the first round of cuts, there were no real surprises as far as the players who were released. Well, besides Wide Left… I mean Billy Cundiff. Sorry- Still having flashbacks from last January.

Two players still hanging in there and battling for the backup QB role are Tyrod Taylor and Curtis Painter. Both have had a pretty convincing pre-season and are making a case to have a spot in the final 53. They might be fighting for a spot, but could it be possible that they both make it?

I don’t think it’s crazy to think that the Ravens could keep 3 QB’s. From the way that both of these guys have been playing, it would be extremely tough to let go one of them.

Curtis Painter has been really impressive in the 3 games he has played in and has showed his arm on several occasions, something that Tyrod struggles to do.

Painter has 4 TD’s already, but his performance isn’t the only thing that has made him stand out. The way he has run Cam Cameron’s offense is overly impressive. He looks comfortable, poised, and prepared to take on anything that he needs to. These are all things that Taylor has failed to show. Taylor hasn’t looked comfortable and seems to quickly scramble out of the pocket and use his legs to create plays instead of throwing downfield.

In no way do I think that we should let go of Taylor, but I do think that his lack of deep-threat passing skills are a bit concerning. Can he run Cam Cameron’s offense the way a prototypical QB would? Or is he even confident enough to do so? These are the things that could be an issue if Joe Flacco ever goes down. (Which we ALL have to pray he doesn’t)

Curtis Painter could just be the solution to those problems. Painter has played in this NFL-style offense and can run the same offense Flacco does. That is definitely something that your backup QB should be able to do. So if the team decides to cut Painter, a lack of starting experience is a big void the team would have.

I recently did a poll, asking Ravens fans what they thought the team should do. In almost every vote, the fans said that if the option was available, they would like to see both guys make the team. One of the biggest reasons they said they want to see Painter on the team was that they didn’t want to have to rely on Taylor to take on the entire workload. They wanted to have Painter so that if the time came where a backup had to come in, both guys could split the time to mix up the look.

Doesn’t seem like a bad idea to me! If we could utilize Taylor’s ability to be a playmaker more often, wouldn’t this just add another weapon to our already great offense? I think so!

What do you think?

Should it be Taylor, Painter, or both guys?
