Is Ray Lewis’ final curtain call coming soon?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Although he’s listed as “Probable” for today’s game in Cincinnati, Ray Lewis will not see the field. Technically it will go on the Gamebook as a “DNP” with an asterisk of some sort in the team’s records labeled “coach’s decision.”

Clearly the Ravens and the future Hall of Famer have their collective sights set on next weekend’s Wild Card Game as a return date for No. 52.

Many wonder if that WC Game at M&T Bank Stadium will be the last time Ray exits the tunnel and does his squirrel dance – and with good reason.

Ray has been out since Week 6 when he suffered the torn triceps against the Dallas Cowboys.  For most NFL players, such injuries occurring that late into the season more times than not result in an Injured Reserve designation.

But Ray Lewis isn’t like most NFL players.

The Ravens’ general has been rehabbing his injury vigorously. Word is he has consulted with European doctors to accelerate the recovery period through traditional and non-traditional means so that he can return to the field THIS SEASON.

Does his insatiable desire to get back on the field raise your suspicions about Ray’s future? Could it be that given his tremendous pride that he doesn’t want to retire injured? With all he’s done in his career, continually overcoming odds; staring down adversity time and time again; possessing an incomparable will to persevere and succeed – isn’t it possible that Ray’s extreme determination has everything to do with him not wanting to go out on his proverbial shield?

And if you buy that this is Ray’s motivating force, why the race, the sweat, the hours of grueling rehab to return for potentially just one game if he intends to return in 2013?

The signs point to this being Ray’s last hurrah.

Enjoy it and him while it lasts.

There will NEVER be another player to grace the Ravens sidelines and reach the heart of Baltimore like Ray Anthony Lewis.
