Flacco’s new deal a good thing on many levels

It’s very obvious why the apparently-finished Joe Flacco deal is good for the Ravens. They’ve got their starting quarterback in place for what’s rumored to be about six years after winning a Super Bowl title.

But finishing this deal is good in several ways and for everyone. The two sides were on the verge of the Ravens having to slap a franchise tag on Flacco. If they still couldn’t finish the job on this, it would be an issue or question that would hang over everyone’s head until the deal did get done.

And that could be a bad thing.

There’s no question it would be a negative. In today’s NFL, situations like this happen with deals on regular basis, and they’re not good. Flacco and the Ravens would have to answer regular questions about why they couldn’t finish the deal, did he still want to play here, how much money he wanted, etc. etc.

That would just hang over the team until they finally got a contract finished. Flacco showed he was willing to wait to get the numbers he believed he wanted.
